Here's my first car ever - a '59, in 1967. I have 2 wishes for that time frame - first, that I had never sold that car, and second, I wish that I had taken up steel back then instead of waiting 45 more years.

| Hey Don, I know what you mean. I had a black 1958 Corvette with a hard and rag top in 1972. My wife looked pretty cool driving it to high school a few weeks before she graduated. |

My 1982, last of the Stingrays, till this year.
It was sitting under a tarp for 5 years and I gave it a new life. My son and daughter take it to high school, wish I could have done that when I was their age.
Real fun car and quite affordable.

Does a "had a Corvette" count? Back in my Army days I had a red 67 327/350hp convertible. Real headtrip owning that car. Lots of compliments.

Yes John,
Have had it a few years, a poor man's Corvette. Would have liked a late 60's earlier version, but they were either junk of out of my range. It runs great, looks nice, and does turn a few heads. Also just got a '65 Mustang Coupe on the road, another garage find, $700 bucks, but runs great now and am working on it with my son. Has a strait six and gets great mileage.

Even though I'd sworn off sports cars when I totaled my 240Z in 2012 and destroyed my right foot temporarily, I'd be happy to trade an original 1964 Emmons wraparound for one of y'all's Corvettes if interested.
I'd even throw in a couple bucks on the deal.

Restored classic Vettes are demanding more money in respect to restored classic steels.
I'm astounded by some of the numbers. If I had kept all of mine, I'd be a multi millionaire today. Who'd a thunk it! |

Thanks Jerry, it was blessing from God for sure. We bought it to flip, so we could buy our own building. My wife and I were shocked when it sold, a once in a life time thing. It was hard to sell it. Just a few more pics from the auction. A friend of mine drove the car thru for me. The 1st one I look like I am about to throw up, then pictures from the inside of the car, and finaly this the last time I saw it, in the parking garage where we left it for the new owner.

I see you had it auctioned off by Mecum's. I watch there auctions on TV every chance I get. Did you have a reserve on the Vette? Just wondering because you had stated that you were shocked when it sold. |

Yes I did. I chose Mecum because I could have a reserve, and they were really helpful on the phone. Others auctions were not.
A friend of mine inspects many cars at the auctions, and he told me to have a reserve, but also have an amount in mind that I am willing to accept. When the bidding is going on all you have is the bidders assistant helping you, because you cant hear what is happening. When the assistant asks you to lift the reserve, you cant stand there and think about it. The auction cools off, and may not come back. But if you remove the reserve quickly, people get excited because it is going to sell, and they could be close to owning it.In my case the bidders blew past the minimum in my head, but below the reserve. So when I removed the reserve the bidding took off. The car sold in less than 3 minuets.
They also do a Jedi mind trick on people, they close the hood while the bidding is still happening, and then move the car forward and bring the next car up on the block, so you think you opportunity to buy it is slipping away.It was fun, thanks for the opportunity to share.Dale. |

I have always wanted a Corvette, but never did. I showed this post to my wife. She said, "You should ask how many Steelers who own Corvettes are also divorced?"

Happily married, Doug. In fact, for years - no, decades - the wife had been hearing me say I wanted to get back into a Vette some day, and it was at her insistence that I finally took the plunge. And when I said I wanted to take up pedal steel, she said "OK, go for it!". Talk about a "keeper"..... |
