Joe;
How did you polish the outside?
I used steel wool on mine and it's very smooth, but it now has a "satin" finish. It's stainless steel.

It sounds smooth on the strings just like a shined up one.

I though about using chrome polish or some other compound...

I had rough steel to start with and first used emery cloth - when I got down to about 320 grit I used some steel wool and then went to a 4500 sanding paper I got at an auto body shop - after using that which was better than steel wool I took a polishing compound and a micro fiber cloth just to give it a better finish

I still use one after about 8 years or so and it works well - there are lots of opinions but the stainless steel seems to work very good - you can also use a buffing wheel you just have to use a rubber something to hold on to it and once again takes lots of time.
