I'm not happy with the sound of flat wound strings on lap steel - I prefer a little "grit" to my sound.

Flatwound strings tend to sound dull to me.

On the acoustic lap steel tuned to D, I had a set of medium Elixer acoustic strings lying around, so I strung it up. Even with a soundhole pickup (Lace) it sounds good. Real good acoustically.

On the National New Yorker in E, I have GHS Lap Steel Strings .013-.056. (23" scale) I don't remember where I got them.

O.K., ONE MORE TIME. Just...one.. mo..mo... mmmmznt!

Cut and past the above into your word processing program. Print out 17 of them. Put them in every guitar case, on the fridge, in the bathroom, hide some! Mail some to your friends! Those gauges are for a 22" steel, and even so maybe a shade heavy. But they're all good relative to each other. So once you get one string scoped, it's just a tiptoe through the daisies. It is possibly the most useful thing ever.

Hey folks!!

I just got a Duesenberg Alamo https://duesenbergusa.com/guitars/alamo (essentially the Pomona), and after reading the posts here, I'm still a bit lost as to what I should do.

Given that the Duesenberg is:
* has a scale length of 25.5"
* has multibenders (on strings 2, and 3 by default)
* is electric
* comes in DADF#AD tuning
* comes with 016, 018, 026, 036, 046, 056 gauge strings

I have two questions:
1. What string gauges for each string do folks recommend?
2. Where can I get those recommended strings? Links are SUPER helpful :D :D

Thanks in advance to all your help!! Cheers!
