Highly developed skills and excellent aesthetic and design sense is a salable commodity and always will be. You can great some great sounds from relatively inexpensive vintage guitars and even the Asian factories are now turning out fabulous values in well-built, beautiful and good sounding instruments. However, the luthier/small-ship build allows for beautiful looking, great sounding instruments plus the opportunity to have something that's unique and personalized. These instruments will hold value because they're made with quality and passion.

Here'a Johnny Duke on his Scantic River playing Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" and talking about his guitar.
