my first *real* (and last) purchase of a PSG. Please advise.

If you look at used, $2500 will buy you LOADS of guitar for your money. I don't even know how many single neck steels will break $2500 on the used market. Up to you, of course, I've never bought a new new guitar, have gotten both of my current axes from the for sale section here, and can't say enough good things about the folks around this forum.

I knew a picker in NYC who played a keyless williams S10, it was insanely light, for a PSG. If you are moving around a lot and want to take it with you, I'd avoid the SD10s and go with a single body. I've got two D10s and like the spacing of the instrument better, but it's whatever you are comfortable with.

I think there are not a whole lot of bad guitars being made these days, so whatever you get will likely be pretty well sorted. I don't think it's necessarily worth getting a lower end model, as you are shopping for your "forever" guitar. However, like adding mods to a motorcycle, or improving a house, I think you'll find you are NEVER done shopping :)

I played on S10 this past week and realized something that I dont really like... the pedal bar is really close to you... so it is hard to have your knees in between the pedals all the way but be back far enough to have full control of your volume pedal...

At least this was how it was on an S10 Sho Bud.....

anyays.. been a long time since I've sat with an S10 and it reminded me of this conversation.

I'm not an expert, but getting there  Nothing wrong with a 70's Sho-Bud of the right design, or Emmons push pull, most likely within your budget, and always in demand if you decide to sell it :) Just make sure it has at least 4 knees, or figure in the added cost of knees - parts can be pricey ;-)
