Here's one of my favorite solos in the book and one of Joaquin's prettiest performances. He improvises with the freedom and sensitivity of a great melodic sax player like Stan Getz or Paul Desmond. Very subtle and beautiful touch on the volume pedal too.

Book Arrived!

The book is absolutely gorgeous! What a wonderful resource for decoding a bit of Joaquin's mastery. Well done Mike! Thanks again to everyone involved.

All of the tunes are available still on various cds, with the exception of Rich Man, Poor Man, which is on Andy Volk's Soundcloud page referenced above.
(Andy, is it possible to enable downloads for this tune?)

Does anyone have a copy of the tab for "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" that John McGann posted years ago as a tease for the book? http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum18/HTML/000135.html

I have finally gotten all of the books shipped. Apologies to those 2 or 3 that went out a little later than the others. I forgot how overwhelming it can be to ship a bunch of books all over the world at one time.

Anyway, I'm considering doing a volume 2 of Joaquin solos.

Update on book sales

Post by Mike Neer »

I'm happy to say that I am going to send John McGann's widow a check for $200, based on the books you've purchased thus far.

It's not much in the grand scheme, but it shows that John is not forgotten and we appreciate his work.

Thanks everyone!

"Good on you", Mike!

I was cleaning out old email this morning and came across this flash of McGann's great sense of humor. He is missed.

My thanks to both of you, Mike, Andy, your collaboration has been good for everyone involved. I am having a ball with the book, it's as though it gave me permission to try things I wouldn't have thought of.

They are in stock, Jim, I just had to reset the inventory number, as I ordered more than I initially planned.
