I don't think any jazz musicians would have a problem with that. :)

Other than Errol Gardner, I don't think I've ever heard a jazz musician play Misty. I have always thought of that tune as more of lounge act tune, not a jazz tune.

As far as my pickin I am an amateur picker. In fact I played at the Central Arkansas Steel Guitar Club meeting last Sunday and never got any any applause. I thought my guitar sounded pretty good.

There are certain sounds of the steel, that, have become imbedded in my brain and those are the sounds I like and prefer to play. My roots started in the middle 70's. That's where the seed was planted and it has flourished to where I'm at today. I haven't stagnated, but, progressed with time and so have my music tastes. My steel playing keeps evolving with the newer stuff I hear, but, I still can't stop myself from playing the "classics" because they are classics. Everytime I hear a Pro player put his personal spin on a classic steel tune, I feel it inject new life into that tune and keeps it alive one more time. I have to admit, though, there are certain steel tunes that I just can't bear to hear anymore, but, that's just me and my personal taste. I know others feel differently and that's their right to do so. I don't think there is anything wrong in playing a classic tune if that's what you want to do and it makes you happy. Some of those tunes are undeniably the best tunes we've ever heard.

The steel to me, is a very versitile instrument, when placed in the hands of an innovative artist. Here is an example of what the steel can do, that to me is neither country, rock or whatever. Just a very nice composition from the mind and hands of Zane King that shows exactly what the steel can do.

So, there is room for all kinds of music with the steel and there are tunes that everyone can enjoy, same as any instrument.
