I wouldn't store hats right side up like that!

Looks like Tony had a pair of boots made at he Austin Hall Boot Co.
I have worn western for 38 years, bought my first Resistol when I was 17 (still have it) from Eatons Western ranch/tack store in Apple Valley, MN...long since gone.
I have mostly Stetson and Resistol felts (16-18) ? that I've picked up in my travels(moms an Okie)with an assorted straw/shauntung for summer. Hardly ever seen without a hat on except when working at the PD, and if I could get away with it I'd swear myself in as a Texas Ranger and get the hat to boot

Cowboy hats are for cowboys on horseback to shield him from the rain and sun--straw in summer, felt in winter. Also good for watering your horse. (added note: pointed-toe boots are for ease of inserting the foot into the stirrup--not for walking, dancing, or playing)
Other recent uses of cowboy hats by musicians: good for deflecting the sound from floor monitors so you can hear yourself,
good for shading your head from the sun at an outdoor gig, or blinding overhead stage lights,
good for covering a shiny head.
Other uses: Good for a hearty laugh at the rude a**holes who refuse to remove their hat at a restaurant, or blocks your view at a concert.

Mine has seen a bit of wear, but it pretty much goes to every gig and most other places too.

In my gigging days, I played with a lot of bands at Country & Western clubs.
I soon discovered that if I was having a bad night (my playing was terrible, or the bands playing was terrible, or both), all I had to do was put my cowboy hat on for the rest of the show, and all was forgiven.
I could play out-of-tune bum notes all night, and as long as I was seen as a fellow cowboy, not one word of criticism was uttered

They are pricey but you get what you pay for.

I'm with Malcolm on this issue - I feel a bit silly putting one on. Having said that, doing the 'Always, Patsy Cline' show requires the band members to dress up so who am I to argue?
Then there's my perennial gig in Medora; same applies there although we're occasionally excused hat-wearing when it's 100+ degrees.
I feel silly dressed like a Hollywood cowboy!

Always wear one. Always store them brim-up unless they're hanging on a hat-rack
