Let me know if you want to come slots are filling up fast.I will go back and check the hall and see how many more I can fit in there. It is a large hall so I figure about 20 t0 24 plays will be comfortable. It is getting bigger each Steel Jam.

One more thing. Guys remember to bring your tracks that you want to play to.We will do a round Robin and everyone will play 2 songs with tracks and then we will play with the band and different singers until everyone that wants to sing and Steel players play one at a time on the break in every song. if we have more time and you want we will go back and play 2 more tracks till the end.

Tracks

Personally I would like everyone to play more than two songs at a setting. Tracks really give a person more time to practice at home and play better at the jam. Anyway, just my opinion. Maybe three or four songs at the time--someone else "chime-in" an opinion. But it's Sams jam, so whatever he says is the bottom line, again its just my opinion.

Tracks or Band

I would like to also have more tracks. Some of us that's all we do and others just play with a band. If we knew the songs the bands were gonna play we may would have time to learn at least the breaks. I feel stupid setting there when the band is playing and it is my turn to play and I have to just say skip me cause I don't know that song. It takes a lot just to get to the jams moving all this equipment just to play two songs. At least 4 tracks and if we could know ahead of time the songs the bands may do would allow us time to practice those so we would know them and not feel bad about not being able to play with the band.
Like Allen said, this is just my opinion and my little two cents. I am willing to do whatever Sam wants to do as well and suggestions by others would be nice. I would hope it would be a fun filled day for all involved. Thanks for all you do Sam to make these events available to local steel players. It's nice to have these times to get together and meet each other. I enjoy it a lot. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

I understand what you guys are saying. With say 14 steel players out of the 16 that are coming who will more than likely play tracks. It is going to take a lot of time if each player plays 3 tracks. The band will have to hang around all that time and might get tied of waiting. So I will try 3 songs each and see what happens. This place the people will be able to dance as it is a large hall.If you figure it out it will be 42 songs on tracks all together and figure 3 minute. per song comes to 2 hours and 6 minutes. That is a lot of time for the band to hang around. But we will give it a try to keep everyone happy. I know MASGA and others that I have been to do 3 and if the time is getting to long they cut the next few guys to 2.That has been done at the last Thomasville jam Anna and I went to.We will see what happens and see if anyone has any thing to say.I haul all my gear to these jams and most of the time I goof up on most of the songs I do but I still haul all my gear at 76 years old in November.

I will let you all know that Billy (BJ) Barbou is having a problem with one of the valves in his heart and he needs money so he is going to sell his Fender Tel a Caster.Keep him in your prayers as I will keep in touch with him to see how he is doing.

Now what I'm going to tell you now is that Tuesday Anna and I are going to Florida to visit friends and our two Daughters and while we are there we are going to look at some homes there. We have ours on the market right now and if we can't find something nice we will remain where we are.Hopefully we will still be able to have the jam. I will keep you posted on what is going on.If we are not able to do this Steel Jam some one should run it and see how you do so to keep it going.

Sam, you might consider starting the band at 12 or 12:30, If we start at ten that would give us more time for tracks, just thinking out loud.

Rey the answer to your post is that they will not be opening the hall until round 10: to 10:30 so we will not be able to start at 10:00 and we have at least 3 Players coming down from Virginia.I hope Sid Hudson will be coming. Also lets hope I'm not moved to Florida before hand.I also hope that when we do move someone can take over and keep it going. I know if Ray Walker was still here he would do it.

What does one bring other than their steel guitar and backtracks. Can we bring our own effects and amplifiers (and speakers for that matter). How is it usually done. I like to have my own gear but I know if everyone brings their own amps and speakers, there would probrably be amps and speakers everywhere.

My setup is very similar to the way a lot of professionals play. I have a portable rackmount unit with all my preamp, effects, and power amp all in one unit with input and output jacks installed. All I need is a 120V receptacle and two speakers when i go somewhere but i do have my pv112's speakers if I need them. I also have a line out jack to go to a mixing board or Pa system. How is it generally done at steel conventions?

I would like to try to attend this one if i can get off. So i just want to be prepared and organized when i get ready to play.

I hope to get Clyde Mattocks to come to this Steel Jam and hope we can get Tim Tyner to come also. I just heard him play on there Web page and He is super. Some friends of mine went to hear them play at the Moose Lodge in Smithfield Thursday night. What that band did not know that one of the friends that went to hear them said they are excellent and he was in Nashville for 21 years and opened many times for Farron Young, George Strait and many more. His Stage name is Ray Cross and he is a super singer.

Sam just wanted to say thanks for the chance to play your steel. Ray walker and Jack palmer did a great job on it. It plays and sounds like a dream even with me lol. My dream is to one day be able to play a steel guitar half as good as Ray and Jack.
