Hello from Steeler's Choice.
I wish I could make it to Oak Grove and back to Little Rock by 8:30pm sat night, but I am afraid of flying too low around those Arkansas state troopers. I would be there if not for a prior booked show date in Little Rock. "BUT GOOD NEWS". Dad (Kenn Rollans) has made plans to be there for what sounds like a great show. He will also have a variety of pac seats to show and sell.
So unless something drastic occurs, I will
have to miss this show trip. Please keep in touch with us on the next show time.
Thank you, Dan Rollans

A drummer friend of mine here in the St. Cloud MN area is originally from Oak Grove. With the exception of a few visits, he hasn't spent any time there in over 20+ years. He can't believe there's such an event going on. He said the music scene in that area wasn't so great when he left. Good luck with the show.

Kevin I can't believe some one would leave Oak Grove for Minnesota!! Oak grove is not a big town, about 2,500, but is a hub for a huge rural area. This Oak Grove is located in NE LA and is the Sweet Potato(e) Capital of the world!! Ask your friend if he remembers the old Fiske Theatre? It is a historical place and a great place for a show. Ol'Tex Ritter and "Flash" may just come ridden through. Believe me Oak Grove is BIG musically. More guitar pickers per acre than any where in Minnesota I'll bet!! Y'all come on down!! Don't bring any winter clothes!! ha ha

"There hasn't been an event like this in northeast Louisiana," Jack Harper said.

He is the emcee and one of the singers in the Stars of Steel Guitar Exposition to be held this Saturdayat the historic Fiske Theatre in Oak Grove.

Steel guitarists from a six-state area will perform in 25-to-30-minute sessions from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

"Most players don't want to play in honky tonks, so we're trying to give them a place to come together," Harper said. "We're drawing players from Kansas to the Gulf Coast."

The showcase and concert are part of an effort to form an Ark-La-Miss Steel Guitar Association in order to have a database, or official listing, of steel guitar players in the area.

"There are two or three of these steel guitar associations in Texas," Harper said, emphasizing the need for one in Louisiana.

The lineup of guitar players includes former school teacher Jack Matthews from Magnolia, Ark. Matthews recently won first runner-up for Steel Guitar Player of the Year in a Texas competition, Harper said.

Also signed on is professional steel guitar player Gary Miles, who just returned from a music tour in Hawaii. Miles' niche — unlike most steel-string players — is blues and jazz, an obvious specialty for the New Orleans native.

Also plucking away at the strings will be 10-year-old Austin Stewart, a young steel player who will be performing classics including "Faded Love" by Bob Wills.

Country-western fans should get to enjoy the entire Ray Price collection, including hits "A Way to Survive," "San Antonio Rose" and "I Don't Believe I'll Fall in Love Today."

Louis Neatherly, who is helping organize the day-long event, said there will be a steel guitar swap meet at the showcase in which players can buy and trade guitars.

"They'll enjoy professional country music at its best," Neatherly said.

The event will conclude with a Louisiana hayride-style show in the evening. Concessions will be provided.
