Just wanted to say I am really excited about coming home to Mississippi for this show. As I stated early in this thread, my father's heritage is from middle Mississippi and I still have lots of "kinfolk" roaming around in that area. I am leaving tomorrow to do some visiting and will invite as many as can come to the show in Fulton on Friday and Saturday.

I've talked to Wendell G. and he's agreed to let me pay him some big bucks to sing a shuffle or 2 with me so it's really on now! Now if I can just negotiate a good deal with that Hartley (drummer) guy I'll be all set.

Lookin' forward to lots of "notes" and loads of fun. Hope to see you there.

Hey friends,

This is gonna be a fun weekend, I'm really looking forward to seeing all the friends I made two years ago.

Tommy D, just pay me twice what you're paying Wendell and you've got a deal. By the way, you're not saying there's a bunch of "tommys" lurking down there are you?

See ya there,

Jim

Hope you get to make it on Saturday, Tommy.

I just got in a little while ago from the first night of the Fulton show, and it was really good.

I hadn't heard Tommy Dodd play in person before tonight, and what a treat it was! An extremely talented musician. Also the thing he did where the Turtles meet Charlie Walker was great. Very Happy It was also the first time that I've got to hear Mr. Bill Stafford. It's easy to see why he's known as "Mr. Smooth"! What a touch he has on the steel guitar. I still don't see how he finds his way around on those 14 strings though... I'd still be lost! lol

My friend Bobby Hempker...wow, just WOW!!! Incredible technique and tone to spare! I'm still in awe. Most definitely one of my all time favorite players, and a super nice guy to boot.

Really great to see some folks I haven't seen for a good while too. Visiting with them just made a great show even better!

Sure looking forward to part 2 tomorrow. Hope everyone that can will come on out.

Daniel,
I wish the folks in charge of today's show had known early enough to have got you up to play. Jim Parker mentioned it after you left, that he would have liked to get you up on stage to play if he had known. We would have loved to hear you. Hopefully you can make it to the next one and play.

As Daniel said, it was another good day of music. Outstanding job by all the musicians and singers, and a good job by Jim Parker in keeping things running smoothly.

We just got home a little while ago from the show, where we were able to hear some great picking by some of my favorite steel players and was allowed to share the stage with most all of them. I hesitate to start naming everyone, but thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of the players that allowed me to sing with you--you know who you are and I'm always grateful to each of you. We were blessed to see so many friends and and cousins, all in all, just a great weekend!!! Thank you Jim Parker, Jackhammer and all who made this show possible!! We had a great time and sure hope it can happen again----- WENDELL

I just have to make mention that if any of you that read this love classic country music, especially the great old shuffles performed by one of the premiere singers of that genre, you owe it to yourself to attend a steel show, concert, etc... where Wendell Gurley is performing. Why he isn't one of the legendary stars of country music is beyond me. Not only am I a fan of his, I'm most proud to be able to call him a friend.

LEMBONE, YOUR WORDS ARE SO KIND AND I SINCERELY THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. I GUESS THE ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE THE SHOW COMPLETE WOULD TO BE TO HEAR YOU PLAYING IT AGAIN--I'VE TOLD YOU TIME AFTER TIME HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR PLAYING AND IT WOULD BE SUCH AN HONOR IF YOU MIGHT JUST PLAY THE NEXT SHOW AND MAYBE LET ME SING A COUPLE OF THEM OLE SHUFFLES WITH YOU--THAT WOULD REALLY MAKE MY DAY!!!WHILE I'M ON HERE, PLEASE LET ME SAY A WORD ABOUT THE STAFF BAND--THEY WERE GREAT!! BEN BROWN AND JIM HARTLEY ON DRUMS, BOBBY RAY ON PIANO, DANNY LYLES ON LEAD GUITAR, MERLE TAYLOR AND JAY FRENCH ON BASS--THEY ARE THE UNSUNG HEROES OF THE SHOW AND WE WERE BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THEM PLAYING FOR US!!!! I'M SURE I'M LEAVING SOMEONE OUT, IF SO, IT IS NOT INTENTIONAL. I LOVE AND APPRECIATE EVERY ONE OF OUR STEEL GUITAR FAMILY MEMBERS!!

Bob, I am listening to your new CD, "THEN AND NOW" as I write this--such great work!!!! A super job just as when you played at the show. It does create a problem for you though: I've already picked one of the songs I want to sing with you the next time we're together--on the plus side, at least you have it in the right key!!! Thanks for allowing me to join you on stage and for being such a great friend. Looking forward to the next time!!
