Even if the fella on th ephone was just taking an educated guess as to the repair needed, I am pretty confident that it will be something relatively minor for anyone who has experience working with and fixing their own instruments.
When I went to the MF site, I pressed "used" to see if they had any in stock, and there was one for the price listed. Later last night after I placed my order and it was confirmed, I got a notice telling me it would be a while since these were on backorder. I don't think that would apply to the one I ordered, obviously, but I thought I would let anyone know if they wee interested in trying to get a brand new one from Musician's friend, that even though the site has these listed "in stock", it is not so. The message did not detail as to timeframe of the back order on the White pearloid, or if it applies to the other colors as well.

Turned out the repair needed was a crack in the plexiglass "fretboard". Everything else works, sounds, and looks great. I'm still very enthusiastic about this Lightning model 3 months on. I'm leaving it stock, except maybe to get the tone control to get the 'wah' sound on quick rolls. Really an excellent model.

With all of the imported crap out there, it is really great to hear about something that is good. With a standard frame humbucker if you don't like the sound there is a wide variety of replacement pickups available.
For people who prefer a single coil P90 to a humbucker they do make P90-style pickups that are drop-in replacements. Alternately with the very roomy control compartment you could wire up a push-pull pot to switch between series linkage (normal HB) or a parallel linkage which is a brighter sound almost like a single coil, but also humcancelling.
I like to shield the control compartments of all of my guitars with copper foil tape so that would be a good idea for an upgrade, especially if you are going to play out in a bar with crappy wiring (I blame it on the consultants who tell the owners to wire up every single light bulb to a dimmer!)
And yes the white pearloid is very nice to look at- I think I'd pay the extra $50 to get that color. Now to wait for another super saver sale at MF...

Thomas- Thanks for the heads up! I just checked and the $20 off any $100 purchase promotion ended on Monday (
) however for today Wednesday the 26th there is a 10% discount so you will save $14 (which is better than nothing). For California customers like me they do charge sales tax.
So is $139.9 their regular price for the white RJL? Funny how the regular price was $199.99 when this thread started ($50 more than the red, blue and black ones)...
In case anyone was wondering Music123, Musician's Friend and Guitar Center are all owned by the same people so their regular prices on-line are usually identical, although they do run different promotions...

Steve, Hard to tell why something is hot one moment and no so hot the next, guess White was the flavor of the month and now black is the hot one. HUMMM wonder if Herman Cain is a stock holder? Anyway sorry to hear the sale is off but maybe one of the others will follow suit in the not to distant future.

I was looking at some old ads, and they forecasted that red and blue were going to be the colors to win out.
Now white pearl is not the hot color anymore? Oh, darn!. The humbucker is ok on this thing, really not too shabby, but I am thinking along what Steve mentioned about a coil tap to get some single coil action going. Haven't tried it out at a rowdy bar yet, but the series wired dimmers are a strong consideration toward copper shielding. Fantastic observation, Steve

As far as I can tell there is no inherent reason for one color RJL to be more expensive than another as is the case with the wood and finish on many regular guitars. I believe that the price that Rogue pays for the RJL's depends mainly on the quantities they import, and the mfg probably allows them to mix and match colors at that. Just a guess...
With the price of the white models first being $40 cheaper then $50 more expensive for quite awhile and then $40 cheaper again, MF might be adjusting the pricing depending on the inventory that they have on hand, the price lower on some colors to move them faster.
