Michael,
The 6140 you referenced earlier that belongs to Geoff Cline- that's the one I bought.
I don't know the serial number off the top of my head but I can get it to you for your database.
Mine looks different from the pics that MLA posted (Thanks MLA) My pedals are on the left side, not centered as in the brochure.
Does that still mean it's a 6140?
Two hole and barrels....I didn't see any other holes in the bottom the last time I looked....
If you look at the pics in the ad you referenced, I think it shows how the pedals are aligned.
I have it C6, I LOVE the sound of this guitar...I think I may want the E9 version also....they just have that sound

Barrels behind two-hole pullers probably indicates '73 to early '74.

It's my understanding that 6140's went out with rack & barrels. Does anyone have a 6140 with 2 hole pullers?
Of course if one had been redone to have 3&4 then anything's possible.

Lookee here Skip

Is that a 2 hole puller? It has two holes per thingy, two for lowers and two for raisin' for a total of four holes per string.

Two hole pullers are the bell cranks under the guitar.

Racks and barrels. My personal favorite!

In theory (ignoring friction), aren't R&B changers infinite raises and lowers? But my guess is that 2-hole pullers with barrels are not. Is this true?

Here's some examples of two hole pullers we make. This is one of my project guitars.

Two hole pullers were the "up-grade" from racks:

Tom, You can put on one pullrod as many barrels as you have pedals/levers to pull with, thus the infinate. Barrels behind two-hole pullers OR racks--same difference. :)

James,
With barrels and two-hole pullers, are the barrels in constant contact with the pullers? Or is there a bit of "play" there?

John, They have to have a gap between barrel and rack, or two-hole pullers. No difference. Think of two-hole pullers as "miny racks".

Don't be fooled by my picture of the two-hole pullers, that guitar is not finished and setup and adjusted yet.

Thanks for the info James! Never had that model, and I figured if the barrels were in constant contact with pullers, there'd be no way to tune any other pulls on that rod. Now I want one!

Howdy Jay,
Looks like yours, #5074, was built about 02/18/1974.
Check for a signed builders tag for me. I have everything else.

Skip and John, my thanks for all the pictures!

John, I didn't get the year for the Black and white, 4&0, with the fuzzy finish.......Does it have a Tru-Tone in it??

Michael,
I don't know what it is about her! She may like the flash. But she recognizes the sound of me picking up my camera! She's in so many of my guitar picks it's hilarious. Her name is Mao. Mandarin for "the animal that makes the 'mao (meow)' sound. She's a gas!

Thanks James. My D-10 Professional is up and running just fine. That R&B system ain't bad at all. It's staying in tune nicely too. Thanks for all your advice and the great hardware. Ditto to: Michael Yuhl, James Palenscar, Rick Schmidt and Frank Sprague. It took a village to get it going. Shall I post photos?

Buy a guitar? Pay my quarterly taxes? Buy a guitar? Have a place to live?

Besides, I'm only interested in S-10/12 guitars now.

The other day I had the chance to play a friend's first-gen LDG with barrels & 2 holers. It's amazing how smooth these old Buds play, not to mention how cool they sound.
And yeah, barrels & 2 holers share the same changer as rack & barrels, so they both have the unlimited pull feature. Compensating micropulls, too.
Very cool gtrs...

Michael, Thanks for helping me date my 'Bud to a '73. THe brochure I have is the same one that Skip posted I guess from '72. It's kinda funny how time makes remembering dates a little sketchy at times. John, you have some beautiful 'Buds there! I love the old 'Buds especially the single necks the best too!
