I use RKL to lower my E's and I don't have knee problems. I don't know how to answer the poll.
As my Grandpa used to say, "Do you walk to school or carry your lunch?" _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

My first pedal steel was
Rkl raise the E's and RkR lower the E's . It seemed logical to me..
I can also play if they are both on the left , raising left and lowering right but am most comfortable the way I started.
I have tried playing steels that split them to separate knees but don't like it.
I don't see any reason to change or any particular advantage or disadvantage at this point in time. |

|
ok heres what I did to my set up
and so far it works great!!
lkl raise 4 and 8
lkr lowers second string/raise 7 th string
a whole or a half tone ( still debate that)
rkl lowers 9th string half tone
lowers 6 string half tone
rkr lowers 4 and 8
pedal 4 raise first string whole tone
the c6 im debate on that for a time knee wise |

Another convert !...... My setup has always been Lowers on RKL, and the raise on RKR. _________________ 1970 P/P Emmons D10 flatback 8x5, BJS Bar, J F picks, Peavey Session 500, Telonics pedal. Boss GX700 effects.

I like that smooth full tone sweep you can get by having the E raises and lowers on different knees. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

"I like that smooth full tone sweep"
So do I, Chris. You can also do that change lightning fast with the levers on different knees. Plus, I don't like to have my knee levers up tight to my legs.If the changes are both on one knee, it seems you'd need them touching your leg to avoid a short pause on the E while you're moving your leg.?
But then, I've never had the changes on one knee. So,,,,,,,,, |

Right Knee Right on a U-12.
Gets my right leg out of the way to play 6th style chords on the right side of the pedal board... _________________ Zumsteel U12 8-5, MSA M3 U12 9-7, MSA SS 10-string, 1930 National Resonophonic, Telonics Combo, Webb 614e, Fender Steel King, Mesa Boogie T-Verb. |

Lower my E's RKL. Raise them LKL. My first guitar was this way and I am to lazy and see no need to change. |

Mike - The only reason I don't go for RKR is I play both U-12's and D-10's. I still like to use one of my old Emmons D-10 push pulls on some gigs and am not willing to change the setup. All are set up with the E's on the left knee. I bought a U-12 MSA that was set up that way and now only play with the E's on the left knee and am very comfortable with it. _________________ Dave O'Brien

Posted 14 Jan 2011 8:49 am hey Dave
|
|
hey Dave well i can understand that for sure
my thing is for some reason after I had my knees replaced(thats another story in its self) my left leg wound up crooked to the outside just recently
I discoverd this to be so.....now my leg is
always twisted way out left so that was the reason
I switched mine around makes a lot easyer pull for me now players with normal healty knees this would not be the case
thanks for your posts!!! Mike |
