I installed this app, and you know, it's fun, really =)
On thing I want to be changed - partial slides over few low strings.

I tried going ampless at a recent gig. I LOVED the reduced setup time and less stage clutter. But I missed the presence of having stage volume, and getting the monitor mix was difficult. Also, I wasn't thrilled with the tone of just having a pre-amp into the board. I'll just schlep my amps and consider it good exercise.

I have been down the modeling road and the boutique amp road.

It all comes down to the speaker IMO. Regardless of amp type, virtual or tube, you need a good speaker.....I prefer the Telonics TSNEO.

BUT, since you are running without a guitar cab, I strongly urge you to check out the Tech 21 Para DI. Powerful EQ, both XLR and 1/4 inch out, a parallel output, and a "virtual amp" that is controlled with a blend knob so you can go 100% wet/dry or a mix.

I like the feel of the Tech 21 stuff WAAAAAAAAYYYYY more than the digital stuff. The price is right too.

A second option is to get a Custom Tones Ethos Clean preamp pedal. It has 2 outputs, one for an amp, on with a speaker sim for running direct. It is like a Twin Reverb in a pedal. I have one which I use regularly, and a 2nd oneI am buying for a backup. It is that good. Getting a bit pricey at $379, but well worth it. A cut above, IMO.

Finally, why not run a Sarno preamp direct to the PA? I have been toying with getting one for a while, and am still trying to decide between the Rev pre and the Octal pre. I would, however, not be using this with PSG, but for my acoustic guitar and banjo rig. The Sarno pre would go to a powered PA cab (QSC k8) via XLR. No speaker sim, but I don't need one for this rig. It seems like a lot of PSG guys run their PSGs succesfully to the front of house without speaker sims as well....,maybe someone else can confirm this?

Hope this helps. IMO, I would avoid digital. I know a lot of guys who are very successful with digital rigs, but they are just too complex for my needs....anbd I don't like the way they sound, generally. I like to move air.

I like this. set clean w/ its own verb.
2 week free demo.
the Wayfarer has some good glassy cleans too. way more headroom n dynamic range than other apps listed here, so far.
Listen to the demos n download it for two weeks.
you do need an ASIO card to play with it...
