I don't see any reason why you're glad you didn't buy a guitar from "Fuzzy".
I'm sure Jerry got together with Fuzzy after he caught Shot cheating him and selling frypans out the back door.

I have an original early Rick 7 string frypan, so I really didn't need another one

It seems that the pick up is damaged and the bottom plate on the bobbin is broken so there is no way of anchoring it to the false horseshoe. (I don't have the piece that is broken off). I believe these PUs are not 'off the shelf' and that they were specially designed for the guitar. Can anyone throw any light on the specification or where one might be able to get a replacement?.
The sound is very trebly and therefore I suspect that the winding is damaged too.
Any ideas from you guys who have technical knowledge would be very much appreciated (Particularly if you are in the UK).

Hi Ray,
I was not satisfied with the sound of the original JB Frypan PU's so I asked Mr. Jan VanDerDonk from the Netherlands to build me a replacement PU. It has low impedance and thick wire like the original Rickenbachers had. I'm satisfied with the sound now.
Let me know if you need more infos.
Is your guitar long or short scale? Mine is short scale but has an "A0xx" serial. Like Erv I also believe that Jerry Byrd's brother Jack mixed up the serial number's first letter for long and short scales.

The body hardly has a mark on it but I suspect that I am going to have to follow Joerge's example. The pick up is not only broken but sounds exceedingly trebly.

Ray the guitar at the top looks exactly like yours
the same slotted holes for the pickup and the same
pickup mounting screws

I know it's important to have the right information about these guitars whether we're players, collectors or both. Aside from being fine instruments, they also represent an historic collaboration between two iconic players.
But perhaps a thread like this needs to concern itself with research and fact finding and leave any further public accusations to the parties directly involved in the dispute. I'm sure that what we don't know could fill volumes.
