Folks, it is looking better all the time! Just got word that the rajin cajin Buck Grantham is coming over to our event also.
And Ivan Reddington just emailed me that he will be here with his D-8 National so we will have some authentic Hawaiian music emanating from our stage. Too good to be true folks, but it really is! Thanks to all.

Glad to hear that my "Cuz" Buck Grantham is coming to Gulfport. Not only is he a great steel guitarist but he is also a great lead guitar player. And we all know what a great photogragher Mitzi is (The Queen of Steel Guitar photography), so it's really going to be a super day of music and picture taking.
I'm looking forward to working with many of my friends, but more so I'm looking forward to the fellowship. The recording session portion of the program should also be a "hoot".
Barbara and I are looking forward to a super day of music, fellowship and last, but surely not least, the great steaks and seafood prepared by my friend the VFW Commander.
God willing, we'll see all of you real soon.

Oh Boy is this gettin "GOOD"!!! I just went and purchased another smart card for my camera, Bill. Would 600 photos be enough you think. I guess that depends on how big you want to make the next news letter.

Along with Ms Mitzie's we could load you up for the letter. And yeah Roy, she is a great picture taker. Really looking forward to seeing all Ya'll. Tell Ms Barb to save me a big hug. Image Image Image

WOW! Things are looking good for our 6 Dec effort.
Here is a gist of the schedule:
David Easley: 3:00 PM
Pee Wee Whitewing: 4:00 PM
Roy Ayers: 5:00 PM
Buck Grantham: 6:30 PM
Dr. Hugh Jeffries: 7:00 PM
The "mock" studio session will be from 8 - 10 Pm. Roy Rosetta is the session leader. Roy Ayers has selected "Somewhere MY Love" as the demo song. Pee Wee Whitewing will be in steel guitar second chair. "Heart of Texas" band will provide their talents along with other musicians selected by Roy and Roy and Pee Wee. Should be very educational to see how the PROS put a song down in the studio.
Before the feature artists perform, we will have members of DSSG&MA ie, Hal Higgins, Ivan Reddington, R.J. Buras, Kenny Duprew, Red Necaise, Ken Henderson, Charlie Moore and possible others on stage also.
Plenty of good food here folks. See you here..

Surprised you didn't have a Ladner listed, Bill.

Along the Gulf Coast The Necaise and Ladner names are like Smith and Jones anyplace else. Image

It is great that my old friend and contemporary Dr. Hugh Jeffreys will be there and play a set. He had made plans to be in Nashville at the time of the show, and I encouraged him to work the Gulfport show into his plans. I was thrilled to learn that he had folded us into his plans. He will be traveling all the way from the Memphis area, where his home and medical practice are located. If you haven't heard Hugh play, you are in for a treat. He plays with all five fingers of the right hand (no picks) and gets a great mellow tone out of his Sierra. His voicings, speed and jazz stylings are something to behold.

This guest is so great. like the 1500 lb gorilla, he can play with anyone he wants to, and this announcement just has to come from a presidential notification. And he will be here in little ole Gulfport, Mississippi on 6 Dec.
OK Ben O"dell, do your thing!

I am so very proud of all my friends for giving us all their talents on our stage here in Gulfport, Mississippi. Thanks guys.
Our schedule now has to start at 10:00 AM Saturday morning in order to allow all the players equal time, or thereabouts. Here is the schedule as it stands now ImageIn order of performances)
Hal Higgins, R.J. Buras, Buck Grantham, Kenny Duprew & Southern Comfort band. (Buck will also perform with this group and we will certainely enjoy the Cajun music this group plays), Pee Wee Whitewing for an hour and Jerry Jaye will be featured vocalist and guitarist with Pee Wee W), Roy Ayers for an hour, then they will even allow me a slot, David Easley, Joe Wright (and should Joe decide to do his regulay show, he will ask David to play a few songs with him-this will go down as a very historic event in the annals of steel guitarists and their playing).
We will schedule the next hour for the "love recording demo session. Roy Ayers has selected "Somewhere My Love". Pee Wee and Joe will be in steel guitar chairs no. two and three. Roy Rosetta will be the session leader and work out the arrangements for this "session".
Next up will be Charlie Moore, followed by our favorite Hawaiian music steel guitarist Ivan Reddington, then local Ken Henderson, Dr. Hugh Jeffries and then we will have a dinner break for that famous surf and turf provided at a nominal price be the staff of the VFW. (Steak is cooked on a grill outdoors). Good too.
After the dinner, Roy Rosetta will select musicians of his choice and then play from 8:00 -9:00 PM.
Jerry Jaye will select pickers of his choice and give us another hour of very professional music. Jerry's voice is in the range and timbre of Wade Ray-just outstanding.
Then, all the die hard steel players will join in the "Mug Shot Line Up Gang Band" for the grand finale and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thanks b0b for this forum to allow us this great priviledge.

I am also proud of the association we have, and the opportunity to post in this forum.

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy to know that we have this priviledge. And that BOB and the crew does such a great job providing, and maintaining this site.

And to add to Bill's mention about Jerry Jaye, You've never met a nicer fellow. He also plays the strangs off his steel and lead guitar. All round "GOOD" picker. And to add to his part of the show, his lovely wife, Darlene, usually does a few songs. What a singer !!!!!

Oh Yeah !!!! Those steaks, (like Bill said also) are cooked over and open hickory wood fired grill.

And Roy,,,, I'm gonna try to bring you and Barb a cake. Can't remember what kind.

It's definitely gonna be a great show, what a line up....and that "big" surprise of Joe Wright coming.....man what a treat this is gonna be for sure......can't wait....HAL

I've worked with these two fine folks a long time ago and they are top notch pro's. He also absolutely smokes the strings off a fiddle too and blows a mean harmonica. Ain't too many styles of music ole JJ can't handle.
As good as he is, Darlene is the talent in that Family.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_4_105.gif' border=0></a> Tell him I said that.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_4_105.gif' border=0></a>

This is really turning into an event that you don't want to miss. If I thought my Old car would stand the trip, I would get on the road and come down there. Sure would love to even driving 1000 miles each way.

As I stated in my email a few weeks ago, I am working on some arrangements that I can play on top of. I have not completed the writings and none has been recorded, AND my D-10 Sierra is down as I am installing additional rods. Nevertheless, we will be there Sat. ==ALL EARS. Sorry about the mixup. HJ
