the frets are painted on (markers). It is for steel playing only.

The nut and bridge are so thin and cruddy that you, with your skills and penchants, would change them out in a heartbeat anyway. It's otherwise a good and very fun instrument (dirt cheap, too). I love the "blend" aspect of the tone knob.

It's pretty high. Can't say exactly, but it's a high lap steel setup. No real frets and can be played as a slide guitar (the back of the neck is contoured for the thumb) but can't be played as a guitar unless you have a grip like Bruce Lee.
