I played a NV1000 for my 1st year of steel playing.. I have recently tried a steel king and I absolutely LOVE it. As a matter of fact, I now have 2 steel kings. Big outside festival type shows will have me using both of them at once. Will I "need" both, prolly not, but man will it sound GOOD!
I Sold the NV1000 - good amp but lots of "honky" midrange to my ears.

For steel-only gigs, my '76 Session 400 always gets the first grab. For double-duty, I generally prefer a Twin.

An early '80s Peavey 100w tube amp (model unknown, originally a 4x10) with a solid state pre-amp. 3/4" Birch baffle, and a 15" JBL M-series, reconed by Woody Woodell with an aluminum dust-cap. Amp has been recovered with Fender brown vinyl with oxblood grillcloth, complete with a Bassman tag, leather handle, purple go-light, and tilt-back legs.

I've used my NV-112 almost exclusively since I got it over three years ago. Once in a while I take my twin or my Session 400 out to see if I really like it that good. I always go back to the 112. Lexicon outboard reverb, though.

I'm using either my Session 400 or Fender KXR200. Both of these seem to do a good job.

Odd man out. I use a Bogner Alchemist head (20/40 watts) with a Rick Johnson Cabinet/Weber California. The Bogner has beautiful cleans.

I genarally use (and like) a Nashville 400 but I have an old Traynor Mark III I sometimes schlep around for double duty gigs or just to change things up. It's got a cool tube vibe, lots of headroom and sounds completely different(but also weighs more!) than the NV 400.

In my home studio I use a Peavey Session 400 Limited with the Peavey Mod through a 15" Black Widow. For gigs I take a Nashville 400 Hybrid (Nashville 400 Amp through the 12" Blue Marvel Speaker). The Hybrid is 10 pounds lighter than the Nashville 400 with the 15" speaker.

I'm way happy with my Randall Steel Man 500 with a 4-ohm JBL E130 - actually I have two of them but have not had need to use both at the same time so far...
