You guys that don't use a pac-a-sest, do you have the bag on stage in case you break a string?
Yes. My carry-on bag has a small profile but holds tons of stuff - just the accessories pouch holds a string winder, side-cutters, micrometer, 2 steel bars, 2 tubes with picks and steel wrench, small mag-lite, capos, outlet tester, needlenose pliers, and a few patch cables. I typically carry 8-10 sets of guitar and steel strings and 6-8 cables in the exterior pouches.
I use a drum throne with a bicycle-type seat. It's a heavy duty Dixon, and the seat can be clamped tight so it doesn't swivel if I don't want it to. I do like a good steel seat, but I'd have to have one made taller than normal. I'm sitting lower than I used to, but I'm still 6'4" plus and my legs get cramped at anything like a normal height seat and steel.

Hatton Cases will be building light weight Tolex and Tweed briefcases with partitions for volume pedals, strings, picks, and hook up wires. Stay tuned.

Just don't ask your wife where to put your stuff. When I did that I didn't particularly like the answer.

Great. Now, if you put legs on that and cushion...
another option...

going WAY outside the box regarding steel guitar seating, i found something called the "Stag ATS"...ATS stands for 'all-terrain seat'...you can google it and find numerous sellers...here's one:
www.darkwoodsblind.com/hunting-chairs...
i have no personal knowledge of how it would work, but it certainly looks interesting and has no downside as far as i can see...well, except for LOOKING different than something you'd normally see on a bandstand...in short, it's a 4-legged seat made for hunters or campers...it swivels, has a padded seat, has a high sturdy back, is rated for 500# (which is, what, about 3 medium-sized steel players?), is height-adjustable from 16"-23", weighs less than 6#, and folds up flat for carrying (i found a couple of places that had pictures of it folded up--not every site does)...you can look around for the best price...the lowest i found was in the low 90s--less than a good drum throne and way less than a pac-a-seat...the pictures i've found look like it would fold up small enough to put in a mid-sized roll-around carry-on bag...i know, i know--it won't be for everyone, but it IS another interesting option...

What Ben said:
"old hardshell thriftstore suitcases for $3."
My 1952 Samsonite has worked great for 30 years. Holds my 2-piece drum throne and cords, strings, etc.
I stand it on end next to my steel and place my gadgets on it. [Giving away trade secrets here!]

Those hunting seats look interesting if they're tall enough. BTW, the correct link is

Bryan,
I do the same as Billy Murdoch. When I have to fly to a gig, I use a carry-on case with wheels for the drum stool, my cords, pedals, etc. and sometimes an amp head. For me it's very handy, and always makes for interesting conversation (and consternation for the people behind me in line) with the TSA folks when I go through security.

This is pretty much what ive been looking for. A swivel stool with a backrest. If anyone tries one of these, please post a report.

I use an old computer case. Its a softside, but it does the job. It has a shoulder strap so I can carry it along with the roc-n-soc seat in one hand and the steel in the other.

I have been using a throne for years. I like sitting higher than a PaS.
I keep my VP, POD, strings, picks, cords in a soft bag. When I fly, I can put the soft bag in a suitcase, check my Stage-One steel, and the throne and amp are backlined.
When I'm not flying, I can load my D10 Rains, throne and soft bag, and strap the bag over my shoulder and grab everything in one trip
Works great.

I use a TAMA wide drummmers throne with the back rest(support) It spoils you. You have to down size equipment. The seat is a downsize for the better butt. You guys sound great without all the effects and stuff anyway. Us amateurs cant tell reverb from a phase effect.

GOD BLESS
