I have a Vibrosonic and a '75 Pro Reverb and i struggle to lift the blasted things now! But you sure can't beat the sound!

I knew it was the same guitar. I was comparing everything, right down to the sunburst pattern, and it all matches. It is, according to this magazine, indeed hanging at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville. I found the magazine at Walmart (of all places) last night while shopping for xmas cards. Check your local Walmart magazine rack and you might just find it. It has John McEnroe on the cover. If you have trouble finding it, I can Express Mail you this copy no problem. The magazine has an online site, but your can't view the current issue unfortunately.

Thank you! I had no idea where it was now, considering that it sold at Auction in London in 2000. If you think that I had the odd regret an hour ago, it's much worse now I can see it again (I just found it at the Nashville Hard Rock's web-site).

I need the magazine, so I'll go out tomorrow and track it down. We have loads of Borders, B&N and all the rest - I should find one.

They mention in the article that the Super 400 was a particularly valuable find, and that it has never been displayed before. Pretty cool stuff.

I am new to the site and to steel guitar in general. I play guitar in an Instro-Surf band currently and the In The Dark album by The Vanduras made me decide to learn how to play the steel. I play through an early 60's brownface Fender 6G14-A Showman head, an early 60s outboard Fender reverb tank, and a 1x15 tone ring cabinet with an Eminence Commonwealth 15 (4 ohms, 225 watts).

Is there any chance that I could damage my amp with an S10 steel guitar? I've heard that you shouldn't play a steel through a "normal" guitar amp because you can damage it but I'm not sure that my rig counts as normal...

Don't worry about it. There is no way that playing a steel through it will damage it. Try it out without concern.

FYI: Topic resurrected after 8 years.

Interesting thread and how it wandered over the years. Here's my Showman experience:

Back in 1981 I ordered a brand new black Emmons PP 8x4. It cost $1550 including shipping from Burlington. I already had a black face Showman in a cabinet with a JBL 15. I used an AC powered MXR 10 band EQ along with a silver face Fender tube reverb. Other than the reverb unit's occasional clanging on a rowdy stage, that rig had one of the best tones of my 35+ year steel playing experience.

There have to be many more threads about tube vs solid state vs FET vs whatever else. IMHO it always boils down to the individual's preference.
