My Framus has a similar idea; palm tuners on each string. It would be difficult to change them whilst playing, so they're just intended to give you alternative tunings. There are three positions for each string.
They also made double and triple-neck models, again with retuners on every string. You would need a great memory to remember how you had set it up.

Basil Henriques used to have the three-neck version, but he sold it years ago as it was too heavy to carry around. I can imagine that. He also claimed that it was difficult to keep in tune. I haven't found that, but with 24 strings, each with three set tunings, it must be difficult to remember how the three-neck version is set up. Having all the strings adjustable at the flick of a switch means you don't need extra necks.
I just wish the positions were more adjustable while you're playing.
They're made in Germany, so there are probably a lot more of them in Europe than in North America.
