Ah, Kevin, Mr. Nibs on Monday nights with Russ, Becky, Lund and the Sky Blue Water Boys. (I think Becky had an issue with the band name) All you Minnesota boys should remember Doug Maynard. I walked into Duffy's (After Nibs) one night and before I caught sight of the band I heard this marvelous B-3 player. I walked in and there was Russ Pahl running through a Leslie, jamming some incredible C6 stuff. Dems was the days...

Posting this for an old friend of Russ's.....

I played with Russ Pahl for a few months back in 1978, in a bar band ("Out Of The West with Beverly Jean") in Madison, Wisconsin. (He joined our band while we were playing three frigid January weeks in Minneapolis.)

He was amazing back then, too...great tone, great solo ideas, and great fun to hang out with. He played even wilder stuff on his Tele, with that fast, steel-born three-finger picking technique. He also sang lead on some tunes, in a gravelly voice with quite a range and a more soulful sound that any of us could achieve. Nice to hear that he's risen to the top of the Nashville world.

Yes Mike, Mr. Nibs and a couple places in St. Paul and a few I can't remember

I've known Russ for years, although I haven't seen him (outside of on the tube with Vince) for years. Fantastic player! He was also in a group called "Great Plains" a few years ago. They had a few national hits.

He and Mike Cass were instructors at the Steel Guitar Emporium in Minneapolis when I bought my first Emmons D-10. We'd talk in between lessons. I got to know both of them pretty well stopping into the store over the course of a couple of years. Fond memories from the good old days.
