How in the world did this get turned around? I thought this discussion was about the great job Gary Carter did. Hats off to Marty for featuring Gary on a solo. I haven't seen that since the old Wilburn Brothers show. Leroy Troy is part of the show and I enjoy the humor. You won't find a better rounded show than this anywhere. Real country, not that (not so) Grand Ole Opry stuff. And, I certainly enjoy the harmony from the Fabulous Superlatives. I don't need to say anything about my darlin, she does it for me. I guarantee that if this were a banjo forum we'd all be droolin to be the banjer man on the show.

It didn't get turned around, everyone agrees that Gary Carter is awesome and that the show is very good. Some of us ( me ) commented that in a 22 minute show the banjo guy should be cut out in favor of more Gary Carter, Marty or Connie. We took it to the next step.

Someone mentioned Marshall Stacks and Les Pauls and I added that the Kentucky Headhunters were on the show a few weeks back and were great. They use Marshall amps and Les Pauls.

I think we are still pretty much on topic unless all we want is 100 responses saying Gary Carter was excellent, which I suppose could happen.

I still think in a short 22 minute show, the banjo guy is taking up too much music space.Everyone likes the music, not everyone likes the banjo guy.

My 2 cents ,if you leave people hungry for more, they will stick with the show .Expand it to 60 min's and people start to get bored with it and after a while they find something else to watch,saw it happen to many good shows in my tv watching years.Its always the crap that never seem's to die but good music shows burn out.leav'em hungry.

Maybe over on the banjo forum, they're saying "The Marty Stuart show on RFD-TV is great, but, I wish they would get rid of that Pedal steel guitar, so we could have more banjo"

Typically, on the Banjo Forum they would be watching the banjo player and saying, "I can do that."

I'd like to see Marty's show extended to a full hour, and put Midwest Country back to a full hour like it used to be. Also as far as I'm concerned they can take off that Jim Owens crap that has the Statler Brothers on the old Music City News Awards.
And I'd like to see the Johnny High Show come back to RFD.

it is my favorite show in a long long time. terrific music, showmanship and quaint and fun and wonderful.

I have no negatives... I only wish it were on every day and that tv was full of this kind of entertainment.

I've become a Gary Carter fan but he was never up in the mix high enough for me (of course). Turns out it was my wife's DVR. Got another unit and there he was! My eyes can't tell if that's Derby or Zum he is playing.
Thankful for Marty's show, it is a dream come true for all of us that adore and fetish-ize country music and its trappings (rhinestones, Telecasters, etc.) !!!!!
Leroy Troy is merely following tradition, far be it for me to suggest otherwise.

I would say for the most part YES, and the banjo hangout forum has over 47,000 members while the steel guitar forum has 9700. So I would say in a battle of forums, banjo pickers out number steel player 5 to 1, so I doubt Leroy is going any where.
He's the reason I tivo the show every week. I love to listen to every part of the show, but as a life long fan of Uncle Dave, I study Leroy every week.

Anyone that knows anything about Marty Stewart knows that first and foremost he is a serious student of country music. As Stephen pointed out the rube comedian in country music goes back to at least 1925 to the beginnings of the Opry and much further than that really. Leroy is without a doubt one of the best entertainers and old banjo players that I have ever seen. I have seem him many times with Marty sitting in with the Tennessee Mafia and obviously having a ball. Leroy always brings an all star musician such as former Grand Masters Fiddle champion Dan Kelly and lets him loose. Maybe he will start including Gary Carter in his live appearances. Gary Carter is one of the very best, he would fit in well.

Someone mentioned adding a top notch fiddle player to the lineup such as Hoot Hester. Fact is, they have one! Announcer Eddie Stubbs is one of the finest Bluegrass and old time fiddlers around as well as an outstanding bass singer. Anyone who remembers the original lineup of the "Johnson Mountain Boys" will most likely agree.

We are getting the show here in Uk.Don't know if it is the current one you guys get, it's on Rural TV (Sky TV).We are also getting Tru Country.Both shows have real quality steel playing, however I do agree with getting rid of the "banjo spot".I think this style of comedy is way out of date.I'm sure Leroy is a real nice guy but feel it adds nothing to show.I would however like to see more of Eddie Stubbs playing fiddle, caught him doing a spot a few weeks ago and he was excellent.

We get the Marty Stuart show in Ireland too on the Sky Network.

I have to agree about the banjo spot. It's a waste of time on such a short show. I don't care if it's an old tradition. There are lots of old traditions that were booted to touch years ago because they were stupid, not funny, boring, etc.

More tele's and steel I say!

I think you have to live in the South to really appreciate how great Leroy is. The show would lose alot if he left.

A quote from Eddie Stubbs "it's the shortest 30 minute in country music". Leave people wanting more. If they extend the show to 60 minutes they may lose a lot of the viewers and then the show world be canceled.

For all of you who don't get rfd tv, you can go to to martystuart.com and all the old episodes are on there. Even if you have rfd , you can go back and watch your favorite episode anytime you want.

I always enjoy the Marty Stuart show every week. It is without a doubt, one of the most inspiring country music shows on television today. In addition to the outstanding music and arrangements, I also thoroughly enjoy the memorabilia, as well as the vintage instruments being played, like Clarance White's original b-bender and Hank Williams Martin Guitar. Just being able to hear those incredible instruments still being played is a treasure all of its own.

I wouldn't trade RFD TV for every channel on TV.
If NOT for RFD Country Music would be TOTALLY dead!.
Speaking of Dennis David Church's Steel player,
I played Bass for David,Dennis got that Gibson console off of E Bay,He also has about a 2005 Emmons L Le Grande that I played when we were doing a show in Maryland Dennis is one of the nicest guys your ever going to meet and take my word ,He has that Hank stuff down PAT!. He plays thru a NV 112.
Of course Joe Savage on Midwest Country plays a new Williams 700 series,Joe also has a Fesseden and a Zum. Gary Carter is one of my favorte players
if Gary plays it, IT's PLAYED:). He also looks like a classy person as well as nice. I met Marty backstage at the Opry Marty is very approachable and nice. I'm good friends with Charlie Louvin and Charlei got my Wife and I backstage passes WHAT a THRILL!!. Had the time of my LIFE!!, But the Opry had the Worst Coffee I ever drank:).
