There he is,,, the ole "WILD-MAN", Wayne Goff.

You know folks,,,,,,,,,,there is a very famous band named after Brother Wayne. I'm sure everyone is familar with "ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL". DAT'S HIM !!!

AND, if you ain't seen it, ole Wayne is a heck of a dancer. I saw him invent a new dance up in Jackson, Alabama. Linda named it, "THA WAYNE SHUFFLE", and it's got some fine foot work in it. SORRY,,,,,,,NO VIDEOS AVAILABLE...........(cept-in in my mind)

Always a pleasure to have you back there Wayne, a beatin and a bangin with me. And you may be in fer a big surprise, (over there on yo left). I ain't gonna let the cat outta the bag till we get a little closer and we know for sure.

R.J., just thinkin bout that good ole GUMBO, makes me slobber all over myself. That's some good chow.

Now in regards to that picher with them Hula Dancers,,,,,,,,and the "STEEL PLAYER"????????
WHAT STEEL PLAYER?????

Folks !!!!

Mr Smooth has really got one in the making this time around. You sure don't want to miss it. Shoot !!! he's got folks comin in here from DOLLYWOOD, MEMPHIS, Nashville, Pigeon Forge, Ethelsville, "EIGHT MILE", Florid-y, points unknown and places you can't even git there, from here.

Looking forward to be a little part of this-un, amoungst all them great players.

Have to apologize to both Garys. Gary MILES will be on stage with "The Smoke City Band". Gary MOORE will also be on the program. Gary MILES and his group comes in from Reserve, Louisiana and Gary MOORE and his fellow steelers will be coming in from Alabama. And the TWAIN will meet in a good way here. Please excuse my elderly moment folks. Will try to do better.
Wayne Goff will be installing all his PEDALS for all of us to enjoy also.
Ben, with a PR man of your calibre, I better get busy and see what I can do to live up, hopefully, to your expectations. Always a pleasure to have Ben O'Dell going to bat for us and sharing his wonderful talent with everyone here at DSSG. See you all sooner now.

My Expectations

by Ben ODell
Oh,,,, That steel man.. I took another look at that picher R.J. I finally got past the Hula Dancers, and sho-nuff,,,, there was ole Bill a sittin back there on that EXCEL.

My ignorance, didn't have anything to do with expectations. Had to do with eye sight, and the way them ole peepers have been trained,,,,,,,, Ha !!!!!

R.J. I forgot to mention those other shots you put in there. GREAT pichers of GREAT players. Always a pleasure to see everyone down at the show. The list of names sometimes gets so long, there just don't seem to be enough room on the page to list them.

I've done some advertising around the neighborhood, here in Beautiful Downtown Agricola, Ms, and looks like we gonna have several folks from across the pasture with us this time.

When Billy gets that players list together, we hope to have a flyer we can put on here, (SUITABLE FOR FRAMIN).

Meantime,,,,,I gotta take another look at that picher of the HULA DANCERS, to see if I missed something else.

Howard,,, sure hope you get to feelin better. I certainly know how that goes. If we can help, give us a shout.............

I usually say it as a joke but here is the lyrics to the steel guitar rag.

So DOC,,,,, Brang It On !!! HA !!!! Ole Jim'll play it in K-MINOR 7th if need be.

The Steel Guitar Rag as sung by Merle Travis

[G]Been travelin' around, seen many a town,

Maybe you'll find I'm the [D7]kind of guy that [G]brags.

But take it from me and [G7]see, if[C] you don't a[G]gree

No melody rolls, like that[D7] ole steel guitar[G] rag.

And when they[C] slide that thing, a[G]long the strings

It[A7] sounds so dawg gone heavenly, you'll[D7] hear them angels sing

When you[C] start your feet, you're[G] heart will beat,

A [D7]rhythm of that ole steel guitar [G]rag.

You maybe kinda choosy about the kind of songs you hear,

You may like them that's bluesy , make you[D7] cry right in your beer,

But[G] if you want a song that's bound to[C] drive away your tears,

Make happy your[G] soul with that[D7] ole Steel Guitar[G] Rag

Well Ben I've had shoes in my mouth before but this is the biggest I believe I've ever tasted. I've eat crow but this is big as a buzzard.
Can't even crawfish out of this one. Don't even know what gear to git to get out of this one.( Uncle, Aunt, Shazam)

Jim could play it in any key you want and do it outstanding but I've had to eat so much crow it has made my throat sore so I won't be able to do this one. Well back to Cattle Call.
We'll be there , we'll be happy and we'll
have a ball.Always love the coast show.
I sure would like to hear Merle sing it.
I'm just crazy enough to try it.
Blessingsto all,
Doc

RJ, You are going to force me to come down there and try to arm wrestle you for that recipe yet. I would have tried to get down there, but I am going to end up in south TX that week end. We got a new grand baby (boy) coming and I got to help the youngest son do some carpenter work for the nursery so I am going to have to miss this one, sure looks like it is going to be a GUD UN (per B.O.). I got some good ole big south LA shrimp in the box and I guess I am going to have to soak them in some creole sauce and pour them over some rice, my mouth is already watering.

Thanks again Doc. Sure looking forward to our 21 Feb show. And if all goes well, we will have the STEEL GUITAR WORLD WIDE KING PIN and his wife Mary Scott in the building. Anytime Scotty and Mary grace us with their presence we must be doing something right.
And I want to publicly thank the president of PSGA for the very nice review of my "Unforgettable Melodies" CD in the November issue of their newsletter.
Now, for the members of DSSG-normally we have a "Friday Nite frolic" here in my home. I would like to move this to the VFW so as to hopefully give this wonderful organization some support in their cash register to help them in their cash flow. It has been very hard for them since the storm with all the increases in just everything and they need some help now. Let me know what you all think of doing this as we could all get a chance to play on a Friday night and be really ready for the Sat. show. More details as this develops. If any of you would like to help me out with this, just let me know and I will arrange it with the club. The Friday night door entrance fee will be 100 per cent for the VFW Org.(I have already broached the subject with the management, but nothing definite until I hear from you guys about how we can do this). Thanks.
Any and all support will be most appreciated.

Just in case Mike Hoover's GRAND-BABY get here early and he does make it, I need to make a request of you R.J.

Ole Mike has a tendency to show up early and chomp down on the chow folks have a sittin around afore I git there.

SO,,,,,,,,R.J. if you just happen to make some of your, "WORLD FAMOUS GUMBO", please stash me a bowl out in tha truck, till I get there.

Hey Billy,,,,, the Friday nite thing sounds good. Ya see, it would give me a reason to latch on to me a hotel room down there, and beat Jerry Jaye out of some of his casino winnins, and fall in the buffet line, three or four times, Friday and Saturday. GOOD THINKING !!!!

It will sho-nuff be good to see Scotty and Mary. Ain't no better folks anywhere, and that will just add to all the other great artist on the list.

I still have the big surprise lurching in the wings.

And Doc, ole Merle did a great job on the steel guitar rag. I'll see if I can scrape it up, outta the archives, and brang you a copy of it.

Confirmed, the 21th of Feb is one of them "NO MOONLIGHTING NITES" so I'll be there most of the day. Hate you can't make it Brother Hal. You gonna miss a "GOOD-UN".

Hal, you will me missed. Your rendition of our National Anthem can not be topped by anyone, but if Herby Wallace wants to give it a try, you might be in trouble. Sorry you can not be here but we all fully understand that a paying job is certainely first on any of our agendas.
Ben, we will have a grand time with you here on Friday night. That will be a big time Friday Nite Frolic on the Coast. Anxously awaiting your big news announcement too.
Now I have some REALLY REALLY BIG NEWS! Mitsuo Fujii, EXCEL Company, Tokyo, Japan, will be on our stage. He will be recording a new CD at Breeden's in Nashville, Tn. and will use his time here with us to prepare. And he will deliver a new custom EXCEL to Steve Sanford who will also be on our program. For those of us who have not heard Steve play, a big surprise is in the wings as he is a great player. (Mitsuo and Scotty have been a steel team for many years and to have both of them here is just amazing to me!). This weekend is really building up for a fine time for all. The coast is ready for this event again. Katrina put a damper on it for awhile, but Katrina is gone and we are still here-bigger and better than ever. Thanks to all of you. I will have a list of players here soon.

Wow,Scotty, Mitsuo Fujiii,Bill Stafford,Roland, and Steve Sanford and a new Excel.
Best engineered guitar in the world. IMO
And the way Bill and Steve sounds on them is a walking commercial for these fine guitars.
Mr Smooth, God is really blessing you and putting together the cream of the crop. Of course the CREAM always rises to the TOP. Sure going to miss Hal Higgens. Folks this is always a memory making show for all who attend.
PS to Ben, bring me a copy of Merles SGR. I'll sing that booger and Jim will be happy
.
This will look like an Excel convention.
Can't wait to see everybody.
Blessings

Well Jim,,,,,,,,,,

I ain't made up my mind, whether it's gonna be a "BIG-OLE-GOOD-UN",,,,,,,,or a "GOOD-OLE-BIGG-UN" :D Either way,, IT STILL SOUNDS RIGHT.

Doc, I'm still a plundering in the archives for that recording.

If ya'll have never heard MITSOU, you're in for a treat. And to put Billy, Mitsou, Herby, and the "BIG SURPRISE, will probably be more-in the ole thumper can take. MAN !!!!! Got that first big surprise confirmed, but I think there is another one about to happen. ANOTHER,,,,MAN !!!!!!

Gonna really be great to see & hear, Steve Sanford. Been a long dry spell Steve.

See ya'll there.
