Thanks John - I've been experimenting heavily with slight variations on standard E9 for lap. Each change has its advantages and disadvantages. It does seems to be a common theme though to have the dom 7 in the lower strings and the 6th tone in the higher register.

I've just recently discovered the brilliant simplicity of those lower E9 strings. At first all those whole steps threw me off - but then you have an aha moment and you're off to the races with melody.

Actually, a .047 uf cap is standard with two 500K pots (wired in parallel). It'll work just fine and should be wired as shown below.

Greg, sweet axe! I have a chunk of 2 X 6 Maple and will be doing the same design, but need to find the keyhead already made.

John - you might try John Coop Sr. He sold me a 10 string sho bud keyhead a while back. He often has "extra" steel parts available for sale.
