Superb playing Doug, as always..
You ask how many members play the C6/A7 tuning, well I'm constantly being asked for tab in that tuning by our magazine readers.
I've post one on the forum, Click Here

Thanks, Basil. I like that arrangement you posted a link to. That diminished chord on strings 4,5,6 is pretty handy! I hadn't noticed that, but I've only been playing the tuning for a few days. ;-) C6/A7 is more popular than I thought it was. I can see why; it's a great tuning.

Doug - Would you consider tabbing out your tune for a fee ? I could try it by ear but it wouldn't sound the same. Thanks - Rich

Rich, If I get time in the next couple of days I will tab it out and post it here.

Doug - I just saw your site this morning ,do you have any plans in the future of doing a Big Song Book in nonpedal C6TH/A7th? Thanks - Rich

No plans for that at this time. I'm too bogged down with other projects. :)

Doug, will you be playing any lap steel at the PSGA show next month?

Hey Doug, you are sure handy with that guitar!! Extremely nice touch and tone. :D

No slouch in the composition department, either. I think it's a better tune than most of the old-chestnut steel guitar instrumental "hits", and I like that you didn't play it "past its welcome"! "Valco Swing" (great name) deserves to become part of the steel "book" and the tab will help. Nice work...

Thank you for the kind words.

Howard, thanks for asking about the PSGA show. I'll be playing pedal steel on that show. PSG is my main instrument, and lap steel is more of a hobby for me. ;-) I enjoy playing lap steel at home, but all of my bandstand experience is on PSG.

Doug Beaumier wrote:...I'm only using three of the instruments on my backing track: drums (brushes), acoustic bass, and a small amount of acoustic guitar set way back....
So is the vibraphone real or synthesized ?

There is no vibraphone, just drums (brushes), acoustic bass, and acoustic guitar. The "acoustic guitar" in BIAB sounds more like a keyboard than a guitar, so I mixed it way back. Mostly what you're hearing is lap steel, bass, and drums.

You're absolutely right, Doug. I listened to it again. What I hadn't realized was that at the end of your number my computer tagged right into the previous file played, which happened to be in the same key and the same tempo as yours.

I liked your little composition, and, of course, it doesn't need a vibraphone... :D

Thanks Alan.

Has anyone tried the tablature for Valco Swing yet? How's it working out? I'd be interested to know.

yeah, fun stuff. between doug's offerings and greg cutshaw (who offers tons of free licks on his website) this tuning could become very popular again.

Great Tune!

One day I hope to be able to duplicate something like that! I am a raw beginner on lap steel, but I am lucky enough to have Merle Travis' 1952 Fender Stringmaster 8, which was given to me by Wesley Tuttle. I can play along with several recordings, but very seldom get a chance to play live with anyone.
I'm new here and plan on soaking up a lot of knowledge!
Thanks for the sound files. Let's hear more!
