There are a few on this forum that might be "Pretty Good" Verboracious Word smiths......if you could understand what the, they were talking about. And there are some that I'm sure utilize a thesaurus/dictionary to pull words/phrases out of their Verboraciously tight anal porthole.

When you go to Supermarkets instead of restaurants when you go out to eat, I would imagine that the best you could hope for is a 'pretty good' experience.

I think most will agree that the "hook" keeping a steel guitar forum thread afloat, is directly related to tangibly rhetorical messages. I've noticed that weekends somehow result in lesser amounts of responses. Could this be gig related? Do weekenders brush aside this very important commodity, while asserting the need to honor commitments?

Really Mark, after taking note of your interests in family/religion, it's hard to imagine you as someone who would intentionally cause a ruckus upon "catching" someone pulling out a thesaurus/ dictionary to check exact word meanings. You're way out near the left wall by preaching the gospel, and then using language found nowhere in the Scriptures.

Check out the modern deli foods, and while you're there, take note of the sanitary conditions in their showcases. They feature a wide variety of interesting foods, prepared daily. It's also a welcome change to not be concerned with universal tipping regulations. The best feature is the showcase, where the food is displayed under lighting where, "What you see is what you get."

Now I once heard an old girl friend use that term about me. ..Unfortunatly they were talking music..

Now I'm "adequately" hungry enough to consume "acceptable" portions of "pretty good" culinary offerings. I hope my next epicurean experience is more than "exceptionally mediocre".

And if you're from Minnesota, that's the highest praise one can hope to obtain. There are even stores that braggingly say about themselves "Pretty Good Shopping"! How boastful can you get?!

Bill I was not individualizing you. I guarantee you one thing my friend that family/religion is something I hold in high regard, my friends/family & Preacher can attest to that. I really wish you would not have taken it personally it was not meant specifically for/to you or anyone in particular. But if the fat girl panties fit wear them.....

bill there is a huge difference between religious folks and spiritual folks. Religious folks are afraid of going to hell. Spiritual folks have been to hell, made it back, and are willing to tell you how God did that for them.....I see that you have stooped to attack a man's family/religion when there is little else to discuss. What up with dat......

Somewhat related - The company I worked for was looking for a slogan. They asked the employees for ideas. All the suggestions were published. Some were brutally honest like:

"You can by better but you can't pay more"

or the funniest one in my opinion and related to this subject:

"We're no worse than anyone else."

Fear is the key! Everything is based upon fear of the unknown. It would not be proper to assume that I would ever attempt to dissuade or encourage the rights of others in their personal beliefs. Why would anyone "stoop" to such levels? Give me one reason!

If someone said that "I´m pretty good" I would be very glad! This is when talking about the way I play the steel guitar! I try to be a good friend and a nice guy to all people that I meet! Im not the best steeler in the world and will never be, but Im still happy for the steel play I do in shows and in the band that I work with. It has nothing to do with religion or like! I praise life as it is!

I'm truly appalled when writers resort to vulgarisms. I cringe at the sight of vulgar language in an open forum. It is the achilles heel of forum exchanges. I appreciate your civility. Please rest assured that my main interests are with conferring with people like you. I have no desire to discuss Biblical translations. That will not happen. Please let me hear more about your musical preferences, your approaches to mechanical changes, etc.

Bill I've always been one to wonder what was around the next corner, fear, no fear and trust me I've had my share of fear, and injuries when I finally did poke my head around the corner. And yes your are correct professor, we are fear based, each and everyone of us. I truly believe that as long as I attempt to be a decent human being today, and be as real as I can be, there is no reason that when one gets up from the table they have to wonder where I stand, and regretfully my honesty (I have not always been an honor bound individual)has gotten me into the old "hot tub of water".

And Bill if you will go back to my list of interests there is nothing that says anything about religion. It does not say Baptist, Methodist, Catholic it says God. So you tell me why one would stoop so low???

There are judgmental connotations that belittle whomever comes under the affixed description.

I wonder how a remark such as, "He's pretty good" would carry in a room filled with steel guitarists?

File under: "who cares?"

IMO only someone suffering from extreme paranoia would worry about such a remark pointed towards themselves, as the first premise - that it's a possibly belittling comment - is absurd.

I'm hearing echoes of the curbside lawyer who can turn on his heel at the drop of a hat. I once saw a demonstration of a clever chap who was practicing law in the court systems. He cleverly moved back and forth, from negative to positive, never once losing the impact of either stance. I know that your clout is not something to trivialize. Approachability matters most for reasons of allowing the thoughts of others to be considered. I play it safe here in New England. Exercising caution, and keeping a sharp
lookout for things that hide in woodpiles is a learned lifestyle.

Thoughts can betray a body through the power of suggestion. You've no doubt seen a hypnotist working to control a subject. There may be times when words written in a jestful manner, and quite similar to hit and run drivers, appear to belittle whomever, or whatever. It then becomes a matter of deciphering to find the reasons for such behaviorisms. There are those who fall asleep while practicing steel, and require a prop to keep from toppling over onto the floor. Others jump around at the steel like there is no tomorrow. Perhaps the remark; "He's pretty good" came out of viewing a wide awake player in practice.
