Those old Goldwings are cool bikes for sure. My riding bud's '82 model looks just like a new bike and runs as quiet and smooth as a sewing machine. Last year on vacation we were going to stop by Sturgis, SD on the way to California and I was crusing about 75 mph on the interstate and a herd of Goldwings passed me. There must have been about eight of 'em and all had lady passengers, matching helmets, and all pulled matching trailers. It was a helluva sight.

My drummer (Lonnie Godfrey) has the big Harley touring bike which is beautiful. He has the LED lighting on his engine and it really looks great when we do some night riding......JH in Va.

the engine on the Ural is a flat twin originaly used by Douglas & BMW in the 20s
the Ural engine runs great in cold climates but has a hard time in hot ones
that's why i mentioned that BMW engines replace them in many cases
the Zundapp KS 800, flat four & the KS 750 were my favorites

The perfect chopper for a Country Musician!

For "old" bikes that I wish I still had, here is a pic of my wife on a 1981 Harley Shovel-head Sturgis that we rode to our maiden voyage to the sturgis rally in 1982. I don't know what the gas mileage was, but whatever it was, it was worth the expense!

The old (my first bike).




The new (my last and current bike).

This is a 1979 Yamaha 650CC Vertical Twin. I found 2 of these in a barn and restored this one a few years ago and sold the other one. This was the Yamaha answer to Triumph and BSA. I bought a Gold Wing about 2 1/2 years ago and this bike is now retired but could be back on the road in a very short time.

Gene Jones, I know how you feel. 1951 74 CI panhead. When I rode this bike everyone tied up their dogs, shut up the chickens and made their daughters stay in the house. MPG, I have no idea but in those days gas was .30 a gallon and love was only .60 away.

Got an 2002 Dyna Super Glide, 88" TC, straight pipes, and SS super E carb. Tweaked it so I get over 40 mpg.
Also 1981 Ironhead 1000cc. Burnt piston. Straight pipes and SS Super E.

Harleys are like PSG's.
You pay big bucks for a "factory designed" product, and when you get it home, you immeadiately start to "make improvements" or customize it.

My Ride pictured below. In Newfoundland. John Fabian: what a beautiful ride. I owned a 69 R69S with the Earles front end, Euro-bar end turn signals and glove box fuel tank. Rode X-USA twice. Sold to pay for my Junior year college...wish I had it back (the year and the bike).

My 06 Ural has a mechanical reverse, I love it! First rig didn't have one, big difference! The earls front end is nice too.

I'll have to give Fabians bike the nod for finest forum machine also, that is one primo Beemer!

Ride safe

Butch's first rig, it was a lot of fun but not enough motor. The car was 175lbs., I weigh 240, and by time Butch hit 80 lbs. we were asking a lot from that 500cc engine. The Ascot is a great solo machine though, wish I'd kept it.

One of many H-D's from back in the day. 68 XLCH, paint is Royal Maroon from 69 Lincoln MkIII. Very simple, mag and generator, no battery on the bike.
