The Bronson brought $731.44 adding up all the parts. Looked like an early '40's Ric with 1 1/4" pick up that looked OK went for $850 on a buy it now. A 1938?? went for $950. Did this seller really benefit by parting it out?

I hope some Rics got some help from the parts, because that's the only bright spot I can see.

This one was a close call, but I'd say Yes. This Bronson was missing many parts. It had cheap $19.95 Japanese tuners, it was missing it's original vol & tone knobs, and missing one of it's pots (maybe both). The wiring was probably cobbled and the guitar mostlikely didn't work. One of the decorative plates was missing, leaving a large cavity showing in the body. So if sold AS IS, all together, it certainly would not have sold for $731 (as the parts did) IMHO.

A handyman could have rewired the guitar, put in replacement pots, knobs, used the cheapo tuners, and left the hole in the body, and it would probably have worked fine. But a businessman who just needs to make a profit would be better off to sell the parts than to pay for the repairs and then have a guitar with a diminished value due to the replaced or missing parts.
[This message was edited by Doug Beaumier on 01 September 2006 at 01:32 AM.]

That's pretty crazy. The Bass that pickup goes on has a current market value of 5K to 6K. Somebody really wanted that vintage pickup! Reminds me of the $10,000 Strat Case!
