What? No bikini babes in the background?

Sorry Howard, they were behind the camera taking the pics. But if this project is well-received we're already planning a sequel, and we'll hire a photographer so the hot bikini babes can be in the pics too.
We'll feature all your favorite thongs!

Where has the time gone? When I was still in highschool and trying to become a steel guitar player, I visited my sister in 1948 in Oklahoma City when Bob Wills was appearing at noon every Saturday at the upscale downtown Criterian Theater.

Herb Remington was Bob's steel player at the time and he, along with Johnny Gimble and Tiny Moore (on four-string electric mandolins), were playing those "knocked out" harmony and riff arangements associated with Wills on many of the recordings of that era.

Herb, modestly says that he was only with the Wills band about five years, but that it gave him a lifetime of being able to do what he loves to do....play the steelguitar and make a decent living.

Herb is too modest, his interpretations and rides on the Wills recordings have been copied by multitudes of steel-guitar players throughout the years.

Herb Remington is one of the ICONS of the steel guitar, whether he wishes to acknowledge it or not!

Jeff Strouse stopped by the studio today to visit and check out the Steelmaster.

Here he is playing with one of the backup tracks from the soon to be released "Tuff Fun Tab" project that Herb and I have been working on. The backup tracks have no drums or midi, just acoustic guitars, bass, and ukulele where appropriate.


While Jeff was here, we did a photo shoot for his myspace.com babe magnet pics.
This one oughta do the trick . .

Boy, that was a lot of fun! To think I was sitting in the same chair as one of my steel guitar heros, Herb Remington! HOpefully something great rubbed off on me...

Rick and Herb have both put a lot into this "Tuff Fun Tab" project and it shows. The backup tracks sound awesome and there's a nice mix of all types of songs...gospel, country, western swing, and Hawaiian. Cool tab, too...handwritten from the pen of a steel guitar legend. I look forward to getting one when it's becomes available. The more of us that jump on this thing, the better chance of maybe getting them to do a "Part Deux" !??!

I'll have to plea the 5th on the wound string/glasses thing, though...

Ok, I got the Fender Deluxe 8 all tuned up, glass bar in place.

Yes it will Steinar - 8 string or 6. In fact, he played about half the songs on my 6 string Ricky bakelite and the other half on the Steelmaster.

The beauty of these arrangements is that they are simple and "un-fancyfied", and Herb played them that way (for the most part). They just cry out for embellishments - slide-ups, vibrato, little extra riffs etc., so he had to use some restraint for the sessions. But of course you don't - you can add your own touches all you want.
Herb's 50 years of teaching experience really shows in this course - it makes you figure stuff out and really teach yourself - and have fun doing it! Even if it is tuff . .

Rick, why aren't you guys playing down at the Beach or at the bandstand? Hollywood could use some good music!

Adrienne, thank you for that. I've played the bandstand aka Hollywood Beach Theater many times, and I've played all up and down Hollywood Beach at one time or other. The Walkabout - where the pic was taken, is my favorite place to play. But these days we're focusing more on writing and recording. When Herb is here that's pretty much all we do. Now that Tuff Fun Tab is a fait accompli, I still have a CD of original songs to mix . .

Shore beats pickin' cotton!
