John Lemay,
Heathkit was a great Company. I built a 6 and 2 meter Transceiver and some other kits back in the 60's. You couldn't find a better kit company. Knight Kit was another good company for amature radio enthusiasts.

Got into the CB craze around 1975 which was a bunch of fun and shortly thereafter passed my General test which I still hold today as WD5CBO.
Spent untold thousands on radios of all descriptions, amps, verticals, beams etc.but it was a great way to pass the time and meet many new people.

I built a lot of Heathkits. A SB301/401 receiver transmitter combo (Heathkit's attempt to copy the Collins S line), a guitar amp, TV and several pieces of test equipment. I still have an old Heathkit Tube Tester.

Hey Al, I was a Radio Operator in the NZ Navy for 9 years - quite a bit later than you of course, but I remember the morse code with much reverance - used to love it, and I still have my chromed 'Bug' key sitting neglected in my china cabinet at home!. I have moved on to the software world since then !

WB5AOC "Agrivating Old Cuss" Finally grew into the phoentics. Ham since 1/10/70, Extra class, not very active, have done a good bit of PSK, RTTY, and other fuzzy modes, lot of fun.
In the other post, I think Joe (houston area) was going to see if there would be any interest in a net, I think that would be fun to be able to talk to each other.

I built Heathkit guitar amps. In retrospect, I think they were not very very good.

Paddy....Great...at least you are on the air. So many inactive these days. My time in the military was spent as a munitions person. (Part of it in a country I never want to see again...ha ha) A far cry from radio or electronics but later crossed into instrument training of pilots. Real related huh?? I STILL use Morse a lot...and digital to..hope to hear you one day...73....AL
