I'm with Ray; can't vote, but it's got to be Mr. Smooth, playing one of my favorites.

I'm voting for Bill Stafford too. Those bass notes sound so much like him on his S14U Excel.

I have to vote for Jerry Gleason... the tone and musical ideas remind me of him.

I clicked to vote but got back to this forum so my vote is for NONE OF THE ABOVE but I am not going to say who I think it is as no-one has mentioned the name I am thinking of yet..

OH and after writing this posting, I managed to cast my vote, I probably just had to be logged onto the forum first !

I'm convinced it is NOT Bill Stafford, as bill's EQ is a lot further over to the left than the "Mystery Steeler." If I could figure out how this "simple" system works, I'd be voting for "None of the above." (It could be TW)

Roy; I agree with the EQ not being that of Bill's usual setting but also, the voice is not that of an Excel either. Would he have been using a different instrument to fool us ?? The structures and string selections do seem to be something he would use.

Regards, Paul

Hi Paul. I could be mistaken (I made a mistake once, when I thought I was wrong) but the voicing doesn't grab me as Bills. I'll stick with "None of the above."

You didn't miss a thing, Charlie. The answer, indeed, is 'Nun of the Above', and 9 people got it right! Congratulations to our 9 winners! They at least know who they're not hearing! ;)

Ya know, I was gonna guess that, but as a "contestant" (?), I figured I was disqualified from commenting.

Very nice job, Jim. If I had known such a good steel version of this song existed, I probably wouldn't have even attempted the one I recorded for my own website.

Then, I'm glad you didn't know, Jerry, because your version is really nice! Thanks for the compliment, though.
