According to the many guitars I've seen, owned, and heard from their owners, there were at least three numbering systems that Emmons Co. used in the early years, 1964-66.
The first was month/year/number, so guitar 1164008 that I own was made in November 1964, guitar #8. The latest guitar I've seen with that system is 5065023 (May 1965, #23). If anyone has an Emmons with that style serial number that's later than that one, or any number of that style I don't know about, I'd like to add it to my list.
The next numbering system was tied to invoices. This was started in mid-1965. For example, #2137, again mine, is a 1965 D-10 guitar that was sold with that invoice number. The guitars numbers are not sequential since Emmons Co. also sold strings, Standel amps, volume pedals, and other accessories for which invoices were written. They also seem to have used different invoice books, because I've seen definite 1965 guitars with 1XXX numbers. They continued this numbering pattern into 1966.
The third system for D-10s was the sequential one, starting with 1000, and with a "D" after the number. The earliest one I've listed is 1002D, owned by a forumite. This was begun during 1966 at some time and continued through approximately 1982. In 1982 or thereabouts, the Emmons Original (push-pull) went to a 6000 series system. My 1983 PP is #6160.
When the LeGrande line came in during 1979-80 sometime, they had their own numbering system.
