Mike,
If you sent an email Wednesday, I didn't get it. You might also want to send whatever to me through a private message here on the Forum too. That way, surely I'd get it one way or the other.

Hello Tay,

I'm happy to hear that you're planning to come and be with us. I hope you'll bring your steel and play in the jam on Friday night, and then stay over for the next day. It's sure sounding like it's going to be a great show.

I appreciate you passing the word around the Memphis area. I'd love to see a bunch of folks from that area come and be with us!

Anyone who's planning on taking the Doug Jernigan seminar, please post here so I can get an idea of how many are interested. Remember, we have to have a minimum of 8 people sign up before Doug will give the seminar.

Thanks,
Lem

Lem,
I regret to inform you that I am NOT the proud owner of a pedal steel guitar; I am merely an enthusiast (for now). I have been around the "community" for about five years, now. I hope to purchase a steel and learn to play it in the near future. I am 28, so I hope I am not too old to learn. I play a little lap steel, but I am more of a Telecaster man. By the way, I recently met a nice fellow named Jerry McKee over in the Iuka, Mississippi, area. He is a steel player, and he had a lot of nice things to say about you and your efforts to keep the steel guitar alive in our neck of the woods. Perhaps he might enjoy coming down for the jam. Also, I have a friend who resides in Guntown, Mississippi, who is a blues guitarist, and has agreed to spread the word and attend the show with my wife and I. I suppose I have cackled enough for now, but I look forward to meeting you at the show in April.

Tay,
Yes, I certainly know Jerry McKee. In fact, I bought my first pedal steel from him back in 1979. It was a little 8 string single neck with a pad on the back, and had two working pedals and a knee lever. It didn't have any pedal stops on it, and so it used the floor as the pedal stop. You had to retune it everytime you moved it if there was the slightest difference in the floor from one place to the next. It also had clothes hangers for the pullrods underneath it. Regardless, I still thought I was the next Buddy Emmons or Lloyd Green with it! I would love for Jerry to come to the show, but I don't know how to get in touch with him. He is a fine player, and would be a welcome addition to the show.

Also, I appreciate your friend spreading the word around Guntown. We would love to have a building full of folks, both players and non-players alike.

At 28, you're certainly NOT too old to learn. I think it's great to see some younger folks getting into steel guitar. I'll be looking forward to seeing you in April too.

Take care,
Lem S.

This is going to be a dynamite show with a great bunch of super local steel guitars, and some of the finest professional steel guitar players in the business!!!

In addition to playing on Saturday's show, Mike Sweeney and Mike Jones will be doing a set together on Friday night as well! PLUS, there will be the "roundtable" jam as well, featuring all who would like to play. We'd love to have a building full of steel players for this!

Folks you simply do not want to miss this one!

There had arisen a previously unforeseen circumstance, but it looks like I managed to wind up getting the weekend of the steel show off after all, so I'll continue to be the point man for this show. When it appeared that I was going to have to bow out, Mr. Johnson agreed to handle things in my absence, but now fortunately that won't be necessary. My thanks to him for the offer.

I don't know, Jim. "Doc" has been awfully quiet lately. You mentioned bringing your new Rains steel. Well if it sounds anywhere near as good as the Rains you played last year, I know it'll be a knockout for sure. I heard many, many compliments when you played last year's show.

Hi Lem,
I've been so quiet because I've been listening to see if Jim Parker is learning the song I wanted to sing the last time we played. He'll be so caught up with that new Rains he'll play anything I can sing and do a great job. I am so looking forward to the show. One of the best I've ever been to.Any thing I can do let me know.

Hi Doc,

One thing you can do, is be sure to bring that Millenium and play in the jam on Friday night! I've never heard, nor seen one, in person yet and I'm guessing there may be others who would find it interesting to get to hear one played live and not just on TV, etc...

It looks like from the line-up, there'll be several different brands of steel guitars being played during the jam and show on Saturday. If I play, it'll be on a Sho~Bud, and there are players coming who play Emmons Legrande (not sure about any push pull players yet), Zumsteel, Mullen, Sierra, Rains, M.S.A. Millenium (if Doc plays), and I don't know what all other brands, so it looks like we'll have a good variety of brands represented!
