I started PLUMB COUNTRY BAND in 1986. We're still going strong. I think we could play seven nights a week if we wanted to. We average 2-3 jobs a week and all have full time day jobs. We are for the biggest part traditional country music.

I was talking to the band just last week and asked if they realized when we had the biggest crowds AND WHAT CLASS/AGE PEOPLE THEY WERE.

It's Thursday nights to some 50 and uppers. They are averaging 170-200 people in a smoke free alcohol free club. Man, things are a changin. I don't drink any more because of diabetes but I still smoke like a grass fire. Still play in beer joints every weekend and enjoy the folks having a beer or 20. Nothing like playing to rednecks with a belly full of Whiskey.

Original band in 1976, the players have changed over the years but the name remains.

I remember a few just offhand. "Wild Willie and the Casuals" was one. A Navy bar band. Great fun!
I've been both a "Rambler" and a "Drifter". In fact I was a Rambler in two different bands. The band name I liked best was "Ed Walter's Country Band". I thought it said it all. And Ed was the best singer I ever played for. He could cover ANYBODY and still sound like Ed Walters. Oh yeah, I was a "Crystal River Boy" for a while. That's all that come to mind right at the moment.

The Innkeepers, circa mid-70s, at Dino's Restaurant, Churchville, west of Rochester, NY.

As motley a group as you might ever meet, playing straightahead country. Great times and songs, band camaraderie; good, civil, regular crowd, etc., all the positive stuff. Couldn't get enough of it, and easily the best gig of my life.

The year indicated is the first year I played with that band and does not indicate when, and if, I stopped playing with them.
I didn’t purchase my first pedal steel guitar until the end of 1993, so in all bands before that, I played guitar, bass, keyboards, or a combination of them. After that point, I played at least some steel in most of the bands indicated, and many of them about 50% or more on pedal steel guitar.
There were three totally different versions of the band “Joy”.
I would estimate that there were another dozen or so one-nighters throughout the years, but I don’t recall the names of the bands.
That would bring the total number of bands to approximately 70.

I guess my favorite band,was a trio I was in the 70's Maybe it's because it was the best paying gig I ever had,The name was AUTUMN DAZE.

While living in Honolulu in ’79~’80, Jerry Byrd helped me to acquire a name for a band, however; until this very day, I never managed to put the group together! The name was to be: Keoni (kay–o–nee) Nui (new–ee) and The Kanes (kah–nees) Translation: Big John and “The Men”
