The guitar is not the first built/sold Franklin guitar, but from what I've heard it's the first stereo guitar. I think it's built in 1984.

My older Franklin is a stereo guitar, and it was built in 1979 or 1980 (sn 11 or something like that). My first Franklin (now owned by Lucky Oceans) was built in 1978 or 1979 and was also a stereo. I believe all the early Franklins were stereo. |

Ok, I don't know much about Franklins and I'm not sure of what is usually referred to as "stereo" guitars when talking about them. I thought only the dual pickup guitars were true stereo, but apparently that's not the case.
I don't really care what the actual serial no. is, it's a great guitar and fits me like a glove anyway.

Hmm, has Paul Sr. made any U-12's? Or would he? Just wondering if this is something I should be lusting after. ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

Bobby, Pauls 2 LP's that I still have, Play by Play, and Just Pickin both have a black D10 Franklin guitar with the older style of logo on it - looks like the same guitar on both albums. |

I don't know about the album covers but I have been told that the rosewood dual pickup guitar was used on Just Pickin' and I trust my source. Did Paul ever play an MSA?

Jamie,
Paul Sr. built my guitar in 1980 (#021). Still looks the same and plays the same. I have added levers and changed levers; have never had to have it worked on because of some type of failure. I still have the original case.
A friend of mine that plays a Zum (great guitar) told me that he could always tell the tone of a Franklin guitar. He said that it is a unique and different tone; I agree with that. I have used the Franklin strings since the day that they introduced them; no need to change. But, to say the least; the Franklin family are great people to know and are class acts................ |

Jamie,
Also, some the players that I know, either have or did have a Franklin guitar.
Mike Johnson, Randall Currie, Hal Rugg, Stu Basore,
and of course the "man", Paul Jr.
What can you say about that? |

I have no idea.It was the first time I met or heard Paul. And I kinda had my hands full.
I can only guess it tuned like the Sho~Bud permenants or a pull release like the early Marlens. Maybe Paul will stop by and fill us in. BTW. The picture was taken Oct 1970. |

Made in 1980, original hand-wound single-coils. Great guitar.
