Tom Bradshaw is selling a stock Dunlop pot - they seem to be the only ones that are any good among the new ones available. If you have a pot pedal and need a new pot, I'd get one from Tom (or you can find them locally, but with Tom if you have a problem it WILL be resolved). Otherwise, pot volume pedals are pretty much the buggy whip of the guitar industry. Optical pots are much more reliable - but try one first, as the feel of them veries quite a bit depending on the circuitry. Some are very linear; some have a "quick change" somewhere in the travel, often right at the beginning or end of the "throw".

Of course, the other important thing is how it sits under your foot and where the fulcrum point is. The only volume pedal I've used for stel I like the fel of i an old BMI (Beck Musical Instruments) pot pedal. Thankfully, it has an older pot that will (if kept properly cleaned and lubed) last for years.

Last - if you have a pot pedal NEVER store or leave it with the pedal in the center of the travel. Always store or leave it all the way "on" or "off". Otherwise you'll build up a carbon deposit in the moving section, resulting in a "scratch".

Personally I like a pot pedal. If you watch Ebay you can get NOS Allen Bradley pots for $10 to $20 pretty often. I had a stock built up but have sold or given away all the ones I don't have plans for.
