Don is the great St. Louis-based steeler (and drummer!) who works and teaches at Scotty's Music and whose instructional materials are frequently published in the PSGA Newsletter and elsewhere. In our Mystery Clip, he was performing with the Valerie Tichacek Trio in St Louis. First of all I'd like to say, "Thanks" to Jim for the great honor of being the first mystery Jazz Steeler...second of all I must say that I am indeed crushed that I got no votes, I loved it!!! Plus everyone knows that Joan plays more Jazz than I do, but she didn't get any votes either...
Thirdly, on the Jazz Steel note, I did perform two shows Saturday night, September 15th, at the Indy Jazz Kitchen, Indianapolis Premier Jazz Club with the Gust Spenos Jazz Quintet Superband opening up for Trombone Phenom, Wycliffe Gordon.
Although I did temporarily stop studying Jazz when my teacher, Russ Wever moved and basically had no where to play it. So I started in on the "Hank Thompson" mode, where that phat jazz solo was in the middle of the C&W song, so that's how I've been approaching the "Live" Steel Shows.
So to everyone I'd like to simply say, "Gee, thanks a lot for your support!"
And I must assume it was good or else all the good Jazzer's wouldn't have gotten all the votes.
It was a blast I must say...and good luck to, "Mystery Jazz Steeler #2." I sure hope he/she can COMPLETELY FOOL YOU ALL AGAIN, just like I did!!!

P.S. Dear Mike, thanks for the nice comment on the triplets, Val really liked that too, it reminds me of Speedy West, then I lower the E to Eb on the C6 neck for the IV9.
The melody unison of "Ornithology" is on the E9 neck while the improve solo is on the C6 neck.
Charlie was in G, the "girl singer" had to be in the key of C. And while that messed up the melody, it sure opened the door for the solo.
