Hey, guys and gals.
Laurie and I just arrived back home tonight (Friday, Sept.7) after a few days visiting friends in the Memphis area and a long, tiring drive back to Florida. Sorry I couldn’t be quicker in responding to all of the great congratulatory posts.
I hardly remember anything about the induction ceremony or my set on the big stage; I was somewhere up in the clouds. It still seems like a dream, and it’s hard to believe that my mug will be hanging on that wall with so many of my heroes. That ceremony Saturday was truly the pinnacle of my career. In all of my 68 years playing steel, I had never expected such a great honor. The only thing more overwhelming than the ceremony has been the huge number of posts and personal emails congratulating me. There is nothing more exhilarating to me than to have people I love and respect say nice things about my music.
Laurie and I sincerely thank all of you, and it is an honor to call each of you our friend.

To all our friends and family! I know Roy has thanked you all for the well wishes and congratulatory remarks he and "I" LOL, for his induction into the International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. What a honor for Roy and "PROUD", yes I am! He is not only my knight in shinning armor but to me the best steel guitar player in the world along with being the world's best husband! Of coarse I may be a "little" prejudiced. LOL We had an awesome time at the show and I want to thank EVERYONE from Scotty and his family for their hard work and long hours, to the greatest band in the world for the long hard work and hours of playing, and to our friends and family who have made such awesome memories for us. We will always treasure them. Roy was so honored and humbled to be selected this year and we both are thankful to the board who has the hard task of making those decisions every year. We love and thank you all. Most of all to our Savior who without Him we could never have had the most wonderful year of our lives! Roy's & my song is "Keeper of The Stars" which he dedicated to me during the show and for God bringing us together I am eternally thankful! There is no way to say thank you enough to all of you but you all remain in our prayers and fill our hearts with love. Thank you! Hugs and love to all & May God bless each and everyone of you always, Laurie (& "Mom"

Mr Ayers.
Not knowing you personally as I do Bill Stafford, I'd just have to say that I go along with his judgement of character, and from your posts here, until you posted a picture that showed that you were over 40, I'd have guessed a much younger man, or an adolescent with wisdom beyond your years..
Much like I noticed in Mr Hughey's eyes the one time I met him at one of his gigs, there is a sparkling clear stream behind your posts, which has been what I have come to know you by.
Two Quotes if you don't mind, I found besides your offer to buy all the Rickies in the world with your Nigerian Fortune....
It has been my experience over the past 60 years or so that the top-notch, world-renowned, professional steelers (the “Greats”) have given us many examples of what is meant by a “Class Act” when, in numerous cases, they have stopped for a couple of minutes to help beginners and “unknowns” – or to be nice to their fans. It seems that those who have truly reached the level of greatness are the most humble. I cite as examples a few of the top-notch steel guitarists I have had the pleasure and honor to cross paths with at some point in my life: Alvino Rey; Joaquin Murphey; Noel Boggs; Leon McAuliff; Bobby Koefer; Buddy Emmons; Bill Stafford; DeWitt Scott; Billy Robinson; Jerry Byrd; Roy Wiggins; Jody Carver; Pete Kirby; Joe Wright; John Hughey; Doug Jernigan; Lynn Owsley; Mike Sweeney; Walter Stettner; Herb Remington; Herb Steiner. (I know that I must have left out a number of Greats I have met that my clouded old hard drive didn’t retrieve, and for that I apologize.) The ones I mentioned above are some that I have personally seen “stoop” to help or be congenial to someone “below” them. A couple of recent threads on the Forum where Buddy Emmons has responded to questions by the younger set are actually what triggered this post regarding “Class Acts.” Some other specific examples I can cite are John Hughey who I recently saw get down on the floor at a steel guitar show to get the model number off of some of his equipment for a fan, Bill Stafford who treated me like a long lost friend the first time I met him when he didn’t know me from Adam at that time, Alvino Rey who many years ago when I was just a green kid invited me out to the club where his big band was playing as his guest and got me a table next to the bandstand, Noel Boggs who looked me up and called me on the phone years after I had first met him, Joaquin Murphey who showed me his tunings and some of his licks back in the 40’s when I was totally unknown and everyone had told me he wouldn’t reveal his “secret tunings” – and I could go on and on with examples. Just keep your eyes open and watch: when you see a steeler shun some fan or look down upon some novice steeler, you can bet your big bippy he is not one of the true “Class acts” displaying a humble attitude that, in my opinion, is a prerequisite to achieving “Greatness” as a steel guitarist. -Roy Ayers-
And probably the one that might seem small, but to me says the whole thing..
In all of my 68 years playing steel, I had never expected such a great honor. -Roy Ayers-
Anyhow, this doesn't excuse any of my failings of deportment, or pave the way for hijacking more of Bill Hankey's threads, nor is it meant to.
It's just nice to see a guy like yourself get a LONG deserved honor.

Thanks John. I would have thought that they would have made a big announcement of it. I'm interested to know who else was inducted this year.
