As far as plugging the cord in to the 'first click', the first click is the switch for the speaker....doh!
I did take a look at doing the mod, the only problem is I can't get it apart!!! It looks like the top of the "L" shaped panel (the main panel) is glued to the top inside of the cabinet. I think it was done so it wouldn't rattle.
So for right now, I'm going to live with it not having line out/speaker out at the same time.

Not battery but you could plug it into a rechargable battery / inverter pack.

Todd-- I found that keeping the original "egg-carton" packing that comes with the Microcube is real useful. As others have mentioned, the 'cube is a great travel amp, including air travel. I've flown to the West Coast twice with the amp checked through in a duffel bag, original packing at each end, cushioned with socks and underwear-- no worries.
Nice practice and jam amp, and even (in an emergency) got me through a gig with a line out to the PA. Viva Brit Combo... --Steve
