Very cool Rick. Red has always been my favorite.
This is my Melobar "Red Ratt". Not as cool as yours but "Just as Red"

Michael -- relax, man. My fault for not using the icon, since that was meant as a tongue-in-cheek.Michael Lee Allen wrote: Todd...
Joey Ace wrote..."I have a 1957 Supro...". Did I contest his date? No. I'm sure he checked it's serial numeber. The number list is in several books and all over the internet. If I made a typo what is the "A"??? Another typo??? Could I mean 1950 AD??? Use some simple logic here, OK? There is no way a guitar like that was made in 1950. Most 1950 electric guitars were single or double pickup non-cutaway and still had the clunky pre-WWII styling.
1590 A is the catalog /model number. Have you ever seen any Valco product catalog, National or Supro?

So now, what are Valco products?

VALCO !!
Wow, thanks for that info Michael!During the WWII era National-Dobro relocated to Chicago and was reorganized as VALCO.
V...Vic Smith
A...Al Frost
L...Louis Dopera/Dopyera
CO...Company
That clears up a misconception I've had.
A well respected vintage dealer gave me some info on the name when I showed him the guitar.
He said it was short for "Value-Control", because my guitar had so many tone/volume presets.
(I won't name names, but in his defense he specializes
in vintage Mandolins from his store on Staten Island)
Maybe he was right. The name on the pick guard is "Val-Trol".
Also Michael, thanks for sending me the catalog pix pf my guitar. I've scanned them and posted them at
http://www.joeyace.com/Supro.htm if anyone is interested in seeing them.
