Now I could be (and probably am) wrong about this as I am no steel guitar historian but it seems to me that nobody was making single necks on a double neck body (SNDNB) as early as the late 60's. As I recall, it wasn't until Lloyd Green had a custom Sho-Bud made for him somewhere in the 70's that the idea of a SNDNB with a pad on the bottom neck area became popular. Before that, single necks were on a single neck frame.

I have certainly never seen or heard of a SNDNB with the older ZB logo on it.

Greg, someone took the C neck off and put a pad on it. That was originally a D-10.

Hey Joe...funny, the last phrase I just typed sounds familiar, but for some strange reason, that ZB in your pictures looks just like Dave Van Allen's ZB (look at his website). Last I heard he was living in Doylestown, PA, not San Diego, but I may be wrong.
In any event, Joe, you are right, you don't need anothther ZB, you just need the right one. You have the second best sounding ZB on the planet (even if it does weigh about a million pounds), but if you ever wanted to sell it, I may finally have a reason to sell my Fulawka.

I thought that might be the case (no pun). But looking at the one photo that shows the right end of the guitar I can't see any holes drilled in the endplate that would indicate the pre-existence of a bottom neck.

Now that you mention it, I do see a bit of a blurry patch there but that's about all I can make out on this monitor.

Joe, Duncan is right, those pictures are Dave Van Allen's D-10. The pics clearly show 8 floors and 5 knees, but the add says 9 floors and 4 knees. He may very well have a ZB for sale but its not the guitar he posted the pics of.

Larry, I just recently purchased a D10 ZB with 8 floors and 3 knees. The story from the seller was that the guitar was built by Zane in Oct. 1966 and his dad purchased it from Zane in very early 1967. The serial # is 1076. It came in the orginal case which is sturdy but needs recovered. The guitar is orginal with the 3 tap coil pickups and the tone and volume pots on the changer end plate, with a a bypass switch between the necks.

Thats a great looking ZB. Bet it sounds wonderful. Definetly a Zane built, Scranton Arkansas model. The serial number listing that I have for #1076 was invoiced on June 20th, 1967 to McClain Music Center. That guitar is a keeper for sure!!!!

Thanks Greg for the info. There was a McClain Music in the Tulsa area back then so that is probably where the man bought the guitar. He told me that he also has a Zane Beck amplifier.You are correct about the tone. To my ear the guitar sounds great and I love the tone. Clovis Richards

Frank, I think you mean MY blue ZB! I think that I've now owned it longer than Duncan ever did. I love that guitar!

now, I dread to see what my old blue D-10 will
look like when Bob Adams has refubished it as it
was not in the best of health, I'll

I meant to post under this ZB thread, but apparently I didn`t.
So, please look at my post with the aforementioned title for pictures of 3 great ZB`s restored by Greg Jones and Billy Knowles.

I recently bought a ZB Custom D10 Serial number is 0232. Can anyone tell me what year it was built? Any help will be much appreciated

Congrats.!
My 0219 is from 1969/1970, so my guess would be around 1970/1971.
But Greg Jones would be the expert in this field. He knows more about ZB history than I will ever forget!

Hi Greg Perhaps you can tell me the year my ZB Custom D-10 was built. The S/N is 0232 It is a truly beautiful guitar with birdseye maple body. Overall is is in very near mint condition. Thanks for any info you can give me on it

I dont have an actual invoice list for anything after Dec. 1968 but....#0232 should fall in the 70/71 range. You can check the volume and tone pot codes if they havent been changed for a date. This will get your really close. The pot codes on Steinar's D-11 date it to 1970.

Someone in San Diego area has a D10 ZB listed on Craig's list. The price was $1500, but was reduced recently to $1250. I know nothing more than what's in the ad. Not my guitar and don't know the seller. Just thought you might want to know.
