I was trying to figure out to present this information too. With a little effort I think you can get it down to the month (or two) using just the information provided so far. Think I nailed the month on both of mine. But the year is so much more info than I have had on my 12 Buds over the past 35 years!! And I'm sure I'll buy and sell a few more.

Two important dates seem to be the move from Nashville to Conway around guitar 14895 (7/25/79) and the move to DeQueen, AR at or about guitar 17844 (11/21/82).

Wouldn't it be wonderful (and relatively easy if we had the data) for us Bud fans to somehow build a complete database including who made the guitar and where it was shipped when possible. Name it after Gene Haugh!! I know he has just made a lot of people happy -- better than Christmas! A simple list would do.

This would be an historical treasure and complete in the sense that they are not building these anymore. And I bet there are close to 15,000 working Buds in the world. Old Buds never die -- they just get rebuilt by Coop, etc.

I would contribute funds or elbow grease to get this done -- as I'm sure lots of other Forum members would.

Just based on the serial numbers Gene has given us, these would be the estimated numbers built per year. I don't know if Mavericks were included in any of the above serial numbers, but it does look like 1975 was a banner year. That's almost 50 instruments per week...10 per day!

To whoever posted or read this post, I have garnered and computed every information concerning Sho-Bud guitars asked to Gene Haugh and answered courteously by him and put these in an Excel file, sorting it on serial numbers. This way, for those who did not get an answer from an overwhelmed Mr. Haugh can deduct the build date for their instrument, except those whose serial # begins with a 7xxx, as stated by Mr. Haugh, as there is no information available on instruments dating from before 1970. I personnaly asked Mr. Haugh about my own guitar and got an answer in a matter of hours but after exactly 100 requests, Mr. Haugh gave up answering requests as it would have been endless. I just hope I can help fill a void with this simple file, although it will not be as accurate as Gene's data.

I don't know if there is a way to get this file to anybody wanting it other than having to send it individually to whoever might want to have it but if there is interest, I'll figure out something.

I have an older Sho Bud Ser No 12227. was originally 3 pedals and one knee lever...has 3 added knee levers. Any info would be appreciated

Jim, according to the database I've compiled, your guitar serial 12227 should have been built around June 1977 could have been assembled by either Duane Marrs, Paul Franklin or Shot Jackson. Look closely at the undercarriage and you should be able to find initials of the person who worked on your instrument and see for yourself. Of course, I can't give any other info concerning modifications made at a later date.

This information does not pretend to offer the same accuracy as Mr. Haugh's work log.

The serial number on my LDG is 11629. The published chart says it was made in 1977. But I can't find any initials. The only other markings I see is "1-A-3" stamped into the headstock side endplate.

Any thoughts on maker or month?

Hey Tom. My LDG was built on Feb. 4th, 1977, and my serial # is 11639, so maybe this will help you narrow down your month. Mine has a PF underneath it, so that is Paul Franklin. Good luck, and hope you can get the exact date, when your baby was born.

Martin, I hope you will apologize me for answering in place of Gene Haugh, but it appears your first Pro I Ser. 15810 should date from late August or early September 1980 and your second Pro I Ser. 13546 should date from the same months era (August/September) but from 1978 according to the list I've computed from this post. I will add these to my database.

Thank ya Pit. I also have another Pro II with serial number 18046. So according to the chart above, there's one that was built in 1983 with serial number
17876, so I reckon that would put this Pro II at around an 84 model? Hmmm, I was thinkin it was about a 1977 or 1978 model. OH well, whatever year it is, it sounds awesome.

Mine is 11800 so I guess that would be about April 77. I can't see any initials. Not many came to the UK it would be interesting to know if it was shipped direct. It certainly hadn't been played much before I got it.

thats what I "constructed" from all the numbers posted here.
But I was hoping for more detailed infos like exact day, delivered to XY, assembled by....thats always interesting, istn`t it ? But only Gene knows these facts (hopefully !)

Mark, your guess for April 1977 is quite good and I see that guitar with serial 11777 (built on March 14th 1977) was shipped to Baldwin in Daoenham, Essex England, so maybe this batch was sent overseas in that time and yours is amoung this group. It must have been built by one of the three "Tenors" of the company (Marrs, Franklin, Jackson).

Hope this helps a little bit.
