Kristy should have sang it like the record! I did hear the steel.
I think David H. & Amanda are least favorite.
Danny didn't know the song. To bad...but he's got the fan base.
I do hope Kristy gets another week.
I love Carly and the little girl nailed it too!
I couldn't believe Randy, Paula & Simon thought she played it to safe. She was right on!
Good talent this year!

Theresa, I agree with ya! Great talent for sure!

The song that started out with the "Oh brother, where art thou" feel, had Jay Leach on the 5 string, so my guess is he was pulling a double and was the steel player on the later countrified version.
I thought it was the drummer who had the beat backwards on that also.

Carly - well, THAT goes without saying. WHAT a voice!
As Simon would say, "I quite agree with Donna...."
Many times, throughout the competition, her performances remind me of the great Brit vocalist, Elkie Brooks. Especially when Elkie and Robert Palmer were vocalists with the band, Vinegar Joe. See if you don't agree. Check out these vids.
Vinegar Joe with Robert Palmer playing the Tele and doing backing vocals. Elkie's husband, Pete Gage is playing the slide guitar;

A more recent vid from Elkie's solo career:

Does anyone remember Elkie's vocals on Vinegar Joe's cover of "Trying To Get To You" from their first album? Truely amazing !
Anyway, Carly reminds me, alot, of Elkie... and that's a good thing.
Keep on pickin'!

I watched some of these last two shows with my family who enjoy Idol.
The Lennon/McCartney/Sony connection is just a money making scheme. The kids have no real deep affinity with this timeless material and that was the turn off for me.
David H. got voted off because of his recent press. Wouldn't you like to see a picture of him dancing naked in a gay bar published as soon as he was the Idol winner. Maybe next year the Idol moguls will ask the kids if they have been doing things that their mother might not approve of and being photographed while doing it.
Still reeling from Danny N. not being on the show, I am pulling for that biker chick nurse. There are already rumors of naked pictures of her being marketed. She is so one dimensional that she is actually real to me. She does not do very well in all the put on smiley face junk that the others do and I like that. Can't wait to see her sing a ballad!

I still think this group is exceptionally talented. It is hard to pick the bottom one every week. I really like Cristy of course. She has a great voice for country. I hope she gets more opportunities to show it. Carly is awesome as well. And Brooke is a favorite of mine also. I guess I am kind of partial to the girls, hmmmm, wonder why?

OK, I'm gonna "go out on a limb" and predict Brooke White and either Chikezie Eze or Jason Castro will be the final two. Don't ask me why, I just have a feeling they'll be the ones. "OK, talk amongst yourselves...."
Keep on pickin'!

With the voting based on each performance you are really going out on a twig.

I can't quite grasp exactlty what these judges are looking for. It certainly does not appear to be exceptional talent. My mind keeps going back to Simons comment a few weeks ago when he remarked to one of the contestants......
"You have great talent but you are forgettable"...........
Now this tells me plain and simple that these people, or at least Simon, are not looking for talent but, a marketable product that has little in the way of human personality.
American Idol reminds me of the production line singers and songs of the late fifties and sixties: one hit wonders who were nothing more than a faceless product for the music producers.

Gotta be honest, I'm not hearing anything special in any of these singers. Some are OK, but I wouldn't go beyond that. Not one of them has the kind of skills or voice that many of the past contestants have had, IMO. Kelly Clarkson, Rueben, Fantasia, Eliot, Melinda, Jennifer Hudson, etc. could slay all of them.
The band is great, though....

Once again I think Amanda got the least votes last night.
Special guest tonight is Kelly Pickler. She's cute & country!
David and Carly sang great!

I think the gal with the Skunk Hair is out tonight.
That was probably the worst version of Back in The USSR I have ever heard, even worse than mine !
I thought the young kid, David, was really good.

Theresa you are correct, you were right first. But in my defense I never actually knew her name was Amanda , I just called here Skunk Hair !

I think Brooke is my favorite this year. I predict her and (huh, huh, huh) David Archuletta in the finale. Seriously--I'm just making fun of his goofy laugh.

I have been watching a bit with the wife and here is my take, for what it's worth....I think that the only person on the show with a shot at anything after it's over is the young guy....I hear that he has quite a following of young girls that are called "Arches Angels" that vote for him.
I think that he'll get a show on the Disney channel aimed at 12 year old girls,
The rest will go home....put on thier DVD's of themselves singing on Idol...and bore thier families to death for the next 20 years.

I've been watching Idol lately, but only because the reruns are on their third interation. This crop of artists are certainly better than years before. What upsets me is the quality of the judges. Randy obviously favors the rock, and blues based artists. I sure don't need him to tell when an artist is " pitchy". Everyone can usually hear it dawg. Paula is a piece of work. As long as she likes the person, she finds it hard to honestly critique the performance. Simon's whole purpose in the mix is to dish out insulting remarks. Last week was really interesting. One of the singers slid a beatles song into a hot bluegrass arrangement after taking a harmonica ride. Simon didn't get it. Later, when he felt the need to be insulting, he panned the bands arrangement that included an harmonica break. I thought we were judging the performer. I think the show needs a new set of judges, as this crowd is getting old, predictable, and pretty much irrelevent. John

I must be way out to lunch in comparison to most on this forum. I really look forward to the performances each week. These young people can all really sing and like it or not many of them from here on out are going to have success in the music buisiness. Regarding the judges, they are a huge part of the show, like them or not. And amazingly, I find myself more than not agreeing with Simon. He doesn't always explain himself well and when he is pushed for more his explanations are in line with what I thought of the performance.
I really like it when they change up the genre's of the music and force them out of their comfort zones. The pressure must be immense on those folks.

The amazing thing about American Idol is, there are different styles of music being performed, like country, rock, blues, and many other styles.

I agree Ken & Brett.
I think Ramiele & Chikezie are in the bottom two.

My pick for the bottom would be Justin. Chakeze might be a close second. I really like Brooke. She has a future in country with the way country is going these days. I was shocked to hear the judges feelings on Cristy's song. I like her but I don't think she has really showed what she can do. I didn't particularly like her doing God Bless the USA. I was waiting for Simon to hammer her and it was just the opposite. So much for my 2 cents.

Jason maybe in the bottom.
Kristy messed up at the end of the song. Gregg and I didn't think Simon would like it at all. SHOCK!
It depends on votes. With my thinking America has got it right so far.
We'll find out tonight.

I think the bottom 3 are Ramiele, Michale and Jason.
regarding Christy, she has shown what she can do. We've seen it. She's close to being booted...another week or two.
I believe Simon is accurate when he says that right now it is still a popularity contest, but that will end soon.
