I don't ride a motorcycle. When I was just a youngster and going to school in Putnam City High School, between Okla. City and Bethany, OK, a guy talked me into taking a ride with him on his bike. We were going down the highway on the yellow line about 75 miles an hour (well, it felt like it) with cars going by us on both sides! I asked him to slow and he let go of the handle bars, turned around and asked me what I said. I have never been on a motorcycle since. However, Mr. Flying Fingers, Wally Murphy is a dedicated biker. It's a long time since my old bikes were on the road but just recently I aquired a "brand new old lathe" to do some work on them and want to get back at it again.
The bikes are in various states of undress/togetherness but are:-

1930 Douglas S6 600 c.c. s/v flat in line twin.
1957 Douglas Dragonfly 350 c.c across the frame flat twin.
1949 Sunbeam S7 500 c.c.shaft drive twin.
1949/50 H.R.D./Vincent Comet/Meteor 500 c.c.
1952 Ariel N.H. 350 c.c. with a spare 500 c.c.motor.
1960 (ish) Triumph Tiger Cub.

I started my motorcycling days with an old Ariel back in 1961 and never thought that I'd end up for the rest of my life driving 4 wheels!!!!!! Innit just rotten getting old??

Music and motorcycles just go together. Speaking of BMWs ... my first ride was a 1966 R69S with Earles forks and heavy soul. It carried me all over US and Canada, and I miss it dearly to this day. Now I ride a 1997 Moto Guzzi Sport injected 1100, which sounds and goes like a freight train, only it handles too. Also a Ducati st-2, for the sport side of touring.

Music and airplanes? That works too. Just got my PPL last year, fly a 2 seater Grumman Yankee w/big engine conversion.

Of the three activities, steel is the safest, but certainly the most frustrating to learn.

Another Beemer rider here--"78" 100/7.
Keep thinkin' I'll trade it for a steel but somthing tells me I "need" both.

I disagree, for me, flying has been the safest hobby I've had. In my case motorcycling is even safer than playing steel. I have never had anyone throw stuff at me while riding my motorcycle. LMAO!

Good point! Steels, cycles and airplanes go together. I need one of the latter immediately after playing the former.

Back in the saddle, plenty warm today in TN for riding. Saw all kinds of bikes out this weekend!

I went for my first ride yesterday too.Took my Suzuki for a ride down to the Sloan`s to check some new `05 models.Yeap.back in the saddle again...

Good to see you out on the bike at Bobbes yesterday. As soon as Bobbe gets his bike back from the shop we will have to plan on another ride somewhere.

I was rooting through the tool box this morning while working on the bike and found a photo of a bike I used to have that I had forgotten all about. A 1973 500 Triumph oiler. On/off road. Kind of like an enduro bike.

It was good to get out with you today for a bit on the bikes, and the dinner at the Gallatin International Airport was exquisite! But I can't believe you tried to strike up a conversation with those dogs at the next table! LMAO! (Inside joke.)

When time permits, lets get out for a nice long winterbusting ride!

Yea, Sunday was a fun day John, I flew two airplanes, rode my BMW K 100, and the Triumph Trophy III, and got to share time with great friends, Pilot first class "Nanette Mahler", and "Master Cyclist" and great friend John Drury.(good steel player too) Wonderful free home made food at the airport, wow!
I sure wish Eric West could have been here, I guess coming to Nashville from Oregon was to much for me to ask!

Dimer, where were you? Playing that great Promat? Can't blame you too much.

Yep, I think I love riding more every year, guess I'll never grow up, I hope not anyway!

My brother from Grove, Ok. rode his HD to Florida last week for the Daytona Rally this week. I ride a '03 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC. Nice. Rode to Pensacola on it in Sept. Had a Honda 750 ACE that my wife and I rode to Colorado last August. Love to play, Love to ride. We need a gathering of steeler,bikers.
