Came back from a week on the West Coast, and what a punch in the gut to read about Rick's passing. He will really be missed. He seemed to have the dedication and energy of half a dozen people when it came to steel guitar.
I'm keeping a good thought for his family, I know they feel overwhelmed at present.

I just checked the forum after a few days away and I was shocked to see "passing" in the title of this thread. Very, very saddening. I never met Rick in person but I was hoping to do so one day. The impression I got of Rick through the forum was always one of positivity, generosity and enthusiasm. My thoughts are with his family and close friends.
As someone mentioned, I too hope that Rick's generously shared steel instruction clips will remain on the web - they are a great resource for steelers everywhere and were clearly a labour of love.

Fred and all.......Rick's site (of which Jody's site is hosted & maintained) and youtube account will remain open and maintained. It will be always be available for future steelers and everyone who wants to visit.
We are very fortunate that Cathe, Rick's wife is so very much supportive of Rick's work, his legacy, The Steel Guitar Forum, and everything that Rick held dear.
Many times, in a situation such as this,.....the family members either want to move on, have no interest, or know very little of what is going on,.....and just want to close the book.......and you cannot blame them for that.
Cathe very much wants to be a big part of Rick's websites and the continuation of Rick's Non Pedal Sessions. Her generosity and enthusiasm is matched only by that of Rick himself. Rick was very fortunate to have a partner who shared his joys the way she does.......and for that, we are extremely forunate.

Another week has come to pass..............
It still doesn't seem to be real.........
Another week has come and gone and still no happy, ulifting telephone call from my wonderful new friend RICK ALEXANDER!
He had become such an important part of my music life and I was just getting into the routine of his energetic, weekly telephone calls.
I hope the rest of you aren't suffering, such as I.
RICK ALEXANDER we do miss you. You have impacted far more lives than you could possibly have imagined.
Your time here was far too short. So much was left here for your one-of-a-kind personal attention.

I was just about to send him a bunch of my old CDs for him to critique. I used to run all sorts of things by him for his opinion. His passing has left a big void.
It won't ever go away. My father was a big Hawaiian music fan, and every so often I pick up a new LP and think I'll play it to my Dad, but then I remember that he's not around any more. I remember in the British television series "Sam", one of the old men remarks, "There's dead men inside you as won't lie down." Relationships that we build up are there for ever, and the passing of a loved one doesn't diminish the relationship, it just creates a sad inaccessibility.
