Danny, You must have been the same W4MOP who had a 39/94 Repeater in the Louisville KY area in the late sixties. Seems I remember talking to a guy who had or worked at a keyshop a few years later. I was also on the Dixie Suburban FD In Shivley. Played steel with Bud Akers/Hoot Hester in the Wigwam and other places around town.

I'm now W7VH, previously N7WNX, previously
N6XUI, previously WA6OHL, and I can't remember
or find my old novice call since the fire at the
FCC.
Been playing steel since 1970. Played in the
house band at Sam's in San Jose, went on the road
with Elvin Bishop, Clarence "Gatemout" Brown,
and Kinky Friedman. Quite the road in 1984 and
been playing in regional bands in S.F. Bay area
and then the Eugene/Portland area since then.
Pretty active on 6m, HF, 2m EME and MS

Hi David (wb8pjz)
Sorry I missed your post.
I was on Fairdale Fire Dept. for 25 years starting in March 1962.
Then move to Springfield OH for 11 years when International Harvester left Louisville
After that retired to Floral City, Florida
I guess you remember Clyde Coffey and Joe Crowe.
Clyde (84)still playing but Joe passed.
I'm still a member of Louisville Steel Club, I do the web site for the club at www.LouisvilleSteelGuitar.com
Hall of Fame Show will be Oct. 11, maybe will see you there.

Ham radio pickers
Make that 109 - I started as a SWL, was G1DQA, until I got my Class A ticket in 1990, have been G0OPL ever since. I like PSK31 - it gives those of us who can't run big power or big antennas a chance to work some DX. I'm not too active at the moment, I'm just so busy trying to learn how to play the PSG!

Steel Guitar HAMS......................
Just caught a glimpse of an article alleging that
computers/internet has had a tremendously negative impact on HAM OPERATORS, registrations are down over 50,000 +/-.
How does this affect steel guitar hams?

Falling numbers
Ray, I think the rot set in when it became possible to dial anyone by mobile (cell) phone anywhere in the world, anytime. The magic of making it to the States "on your own steam" kind of disappeared especially for those who were born to it. I think those of us who play spend little time on air because we are so fascinated with the Steel that we have little time for operating. Joe Walsh of the Eagles is my idea of the Ham/musician in a nutshell.

sold thier ham gear and got out of the hobby 11 or 12 years ago when the FCC dumbed down the tests and did away with the code altho it was out dated but the FCC started giving the questions and answers on the electronic theory tests in advance. Not to slight the newer hams. Tracy

I've been on and off since 1965. My stuff is in boxes right now but might set it back up again soon. The steel and equip. took over my ham room. I worked mostly digital and a little CW when I wasn't brain dead. I never could get past 18wpm. This last spring was a good one for me on PSK31. I use Ten Tec gear because if I have any trouble with them, they are just a short drive to their place from me. I love going to Hamfest and window shopping.

The net and ragchew on 40 or 80 would be great if someone would setup a freq. in the General section.

KF9OY (Started out as WA3WZC 40 years ago) Was always
very active in Slow Scan TV, but haven't been on the air
for several years now. My free time for the last 2 years
has been spent trying to learn how to play the steel again,
since my accident in 2007. I think I'm finally getting better.
