If you don’t have sound on your Creative Sound Blaster (Audigy) after installing Ubuntu 9.04, here is a solution to enable sound on Creative Sound Blaster cards, it’s not just an Audigy issue. I had the same problem with my SB Audigy 2 after a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04, it worked with earlier versions out of the box. I only tested this with SB Audigy 2 and SB Live!.
Luckily, the solution is very simple and in my case didn’t require any installing/modifying.

Just do this:
Right click the sound icon on your panel and select “Open Volume Control”. From there click on the “Switches” tab and check the “Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack”. That’s all quick and easy. It seems the developers forgot to leave it on.

well, did it again, still no voice, it all worked with windows, cd player is working, just no you tube

cd player is in the computer right? how many mixer bars do you have on alsamixer? This has to be something muted or not selected,

did you try this?

I wonder if you have pulse audio installed,

first lets make sure your flash is working, copy line one after the the $ sign and paste it in a terminal. hit enter then do this again for line 2
reboot and try a youtube.

also get that volume control box back out that you posted a screen cap of, hit that devices drop down menu and see if your sound card is listed, if click it and that should fix it.

I would also look in playback and see what is there

Chip the short answer, being able to control and configure your computer, support open source development and actually own your operating system. When things go wrong in windows they go very wrong, this is a minor bug that has a communication gap to be crossed. Like I said, linux has a learning curve, just like the pedal steel. Its not for everybody though. Sorry I couldnt help you more.

I was advised by others, that I'm basically a dummy, and should go to computer school. Maybe 101.

I got this far on my non-formal PC education since 1998. I've done OK, in a way.

But I'm not about to go and really dive into this stuff.

Poor Bill Gates said, one time, that he hoped, everybody would be able to have a PC and be able to RUN it!!!!!!

Ever since I started in with PCs in August 1998, things have progressively gotten just tougher and tougher to deal with, and understand.

So, if you aren't too smart or savvy, Bill just doesn't give two sh!ts whether you can, NOW, figure out his cornocopia of ridiculous add-ons and upgrades.

If MS is so great, why do we have to constantly update, upgrade, uppa-US, security this, security that???????????????????????????????????
