"Teach Your Children" - Martin Gross - Dobro
Posted: 26 Jan 2017 5:45 am
by Jeff Garden
I discovered our Forum friend, Martin Gross on youtube last year. His version of Teach Your Children really caught my ear. His playing is extremely clean and accurate and the string pulls make his resonator guitar into the manual version of a Pedabro
Here it is on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC-N4zl1QZo
Note it is in standard dobro tuning, except for the 2nd string which is dropped a full tone to "A". High to low, D-A-G-D-B-G. Martin recommends an .020 2nd string to make the pulls easier. I had to "free-form" the symbols a bit to accomodate the string pulls. Note the difference between the "bend" and striking a "pre-bent" string. (the bend is noted as an arc whereas the pre-bend starts with a vertical line)
Have fun with it and comments and corrections are always welcome. And check out the rest of Martin's great videos on youtube!

Non-Pedal Tablature Suggestion
Posted: 12 Jun 2017 5:56 pm
by Richard Jaensch
I suggest a page for tabs organized first for tuning, like open D or c6, then all tabs available for that tune with a link to the poster's message. It would make it a lot easier to search for something you are looking for. The way it is posted now, I have searched several times and get discouraged reading through all the posts trying to find something I can play. Does this make sense to anyone else?

hello all I am looking for a source of tabs for church hymns for the 6 string lapsteel /weissenborn

Hey Robert, let me know if you ever find this. I've been working on Abide with Me myself and even afer simplifying as much as possible it's still quite complex. I think a lot of Hymns are just very complicated.

I purchased the TABLEDIT program a few years ago and never used it until last week. I found Bob Wolford's TABLEDIT Tutorials on Youtube and learned enough to tab in Silent Night, as I will be playing in our Christmas Eve Service tonight. It sounds beautiful on my non-pedal Remington Steelmaster and also our pianist plays the music beautifully from the notation. I highly recommend TABLEDIT. Here is what I tabbed.

Gave a try at transcribing Estrellita as played by Jerry Byrd in the YouTube video"

Several years ago someone posted a tab by Jerry for a different version. I used that as a guide.

Does anyone have any tabs for Kayton's two tunings? (C6 with the low, low A, and especially his F13)
Also, I echo the sentiment of organizing tab based on tunings. I would be willing to help in the process, but I fear that it would be a bunch of links, when what would really be better is for someone to migrate posts to new threads/sub forums. Bob, is that something you'd be interested in having help with?
It seems crazy that this thread is 10+ years old, but with so few actual tabs in it. And I know there are more NPS tabs on the main tabs forum.

I would also like to see this section be more active. This is a Celtic fiddle tune in C6 that serves as a good way to work on blocking.

Here is a transcription of Steelin' home as performed by Noel Boggs, for non pedal 8 string C6. I transcribed the entire tune (however some of the comping is hard to hear, so I had to make some guesses). Sorry in advance about my chicken scratch.

Thought I'd put this here also. I uploaded a number of .pdf tabs to Dropbox. They can be accessed and downloaded by clicking the link below. I made these tabs to help me remember the notes as I learned the songs so I wouldn't advise relying to much on the timing, slides, etc. The notes should be OK. All are C6 - CEGACE
